Armed Forces / Chester Castle Barracks
« on: Tuesday 29 December 09 11:05 GMT (UK)  »
Hi guys,

I have a relative who in 1851 census was listed as a private in Chester Castle Barracks.

Does anyone know much about the Chester Castle Barracks for this time? And any information on where my relative would have served or done?

Thanks very much

The Lighter Side / Re: Why?

Im sure the 5 places that got free access to the 1911 census only got a certain amount of credits. I know when i went to birmingham they only had a set amount, and once it was gone it was gone.

But they may have been given more since.... so i dont know.

Plus you are only allocated 30 mins a day at birmingham archives! hardly enough time to find people properly.

Managed to get and comfirm a few deaths. Like you say, they havent got the age thing working yet, so its hard to search by birth year.

But glad its finally online!!

ok cheers. just i have never come across the names before. And wondered if there was a reason they might have used the names.

I know its definatly Laban, and the name was used again by other family members.

This is my family from the early 1800's. but im a bit puzzled by the names :

JAMES HARNAL ROBERTS  bp 8 AUG 1840 Penn, Stafford
MARY ANNE ROBERTS bp 7 APR 1832 Penn, Stafford
THYRZA ROBERTS bp 24 JUN 1838 Penn, Stafford
WILLIAM LABAN ROBERTS bp 24 JUN 1838 Penn, Stafford
LEWIS ROBERTS ROBERTS bp 12 AUG 1827 Penn, Stafford

How unusual would these names have been? ( Harnal, Thryza - is actually Thurza, and Laban... )

And does it give any clues to their faith?

Thanks alot

Not sure if this has been posted before, but you can now get Family Tree Maker 2010 Platinum Edition for only £15 of your tokens.

Ive done this twice over a year for preivous versions, and it has save me a huge amount, even if you dont use the software, its worth it for the subscription alone.

Census and Resource Discussion / Re: Ancestry military records N-Z?
« on: Sunday 11 October 09 13:42 BST (UK)  »
im sure if there is any records on there that are from N-Z then they must be ones that have got mixed up with earlier letters. So i assume you are lucky if you find someone with surnames past N.

Again loads of mine are in the latter part of the alphabet, and its really frustrating me that they might be there.
