I appreciate your interest, and have some other photos of the same event, so will get back to the original scanner and ask for new scans.

Many thanks Sue... I finally managed to get into some more research and your comments all make sense to me... yes this was a wealthy family, so that fits with the upmarket photography establishment... I have been checking the various photos of Joseph Vickery etc and managing to build more detail into this branch of the family.

Yes, I have checked other photos of the family both in my possession and on-line, but nothing definite has come to the fore... others have tried to identify before me too. The photos were discovered in a trunk with letters to and from the VICKERY family members, so the assumption is that there is a connection... just like my FOLLAND diary, there will be questions that will go unanswered, I'm afraid.

These photos were given to me as possible VICKERY family photos... I have done some research on the photographer and he is connected to the same family, so that is possibly why these men had their photos taken by him... I have wondered if the photo was a copy from the original of the two, but the angle is different. It could be that he simply wore the same outfit for the second photo, but I would not have thought he would have bothered to have a second photo taken in Sydney after his arrival in Australia, having had one taken in England, but of course, he must have ... this family regularly exchanged photographs, from info found in letters that were exchanged and kept. I guess it is only something I can really guess at... what I really need is another positively identified photo of one of the gents, to really start getting somewhere!!! (Dreaming, I know...)
