Fife / Re: Alexander Bowman
« on: Monday 27 June 16 23:51 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I have Alexander Bowman as the son of Alexander Bowman and Jane Westwater.
This Alexander Bowman, b 26/09/1819 in Dunfermline, is the son of Archibald Bowman and Catherine Penman.
Catherine Penman's parents are my 5x Great Grandparents and Archibald Bowman is my 1st cousin 5x removed.
This means that Alexander Bowman, who married Elizabeth Crawford, is my 2nd cousin 4x removed.
I cannot find any trace of his birth, but other records appear to tie it together.
By my reckoning, that would mean that we are sixth cousins 1x removed.

Hi Rosie

That looks correct
Alexander and Elizabeth had a son named Donaldson Imrie Bowman born 1882 in Lochore.

Hi

Alexander Bowman married Elizabeth Crawford age 18 at Auchtertool Manse on July 12th 1862. Her parents are listed as William Crawford, Ploughman, and Helen Lawson. The name Lawson is not listed as a maiden name, and there does not appear to be a marriage that I can find.

Hi Ev

Many thanks for the census info.
James and Janet Bowman are the children of Archibald Bowman and Catherine Penman who also had a son Alexander.
When Alexander died in 1859, he is described as single, so he is the father.

Fife / Alexander Bowman

Hi
I am looking for information on the parents and birth of Alexander Bowman. He was born in Fife, c 1841.
His marriage to Elizabeth Crawford in 1862 shows his parents as Alexander Bowman and Jane Bowman nee Westwaters, both deceased. His death in 1913 shows the same information.
The 1841 Scotland census has a Alex Bowman age 1 month living with a Jean Westwatters age 20 in Crossgates.
The 1861 to 1911 censuses have him as born in Beath.
I can’t find any trace of his birth or his parent’s marriage on SP. Assuming that he could have been illegitimate, I tried births for Westwater and its variants without success.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi
Shanbody is shown on John Thomson's map of 1823 of Perthshire and Clackmannanshire on the road from Clackmannan to Tulliallan just before the county border.

Hi Chris
Welcome to RootsChat.
Janet and John are my 4x grandparents as well. I have more info on them and the extended family. I am related through their son John, who married Elizabeth Bowman.
Once you make 2 more posts, I'll be able to send you a PM with details of what I have.
