Tis one's tricky
I'm looking for details of my adopted mother. She was Jewish, and I think she was born in Glasgow c1912. I think her name was Sarah Gordon. She later adopted the first names Sylvia Betty. I think her father was a tailor, but can't be certain. If anyone can help identifying the best place to start looking for birth records I'd appreciate the information.
Sylvia maried three times. I don't know where to look for her first marriage. I assume it was after 1930, so I couldn't find any hits on the Scottish databases. Can I get online access to marriage indexes for marriages after 1930? I think her first husband's surname was Lifshack, an unusual name and precious few hits on Ancestry.com. I think they had one son whose name might have been Peter. I have some photos of a young boy with me and Sylvia when I was about 9 months old. However, just to screw things up completely, I might have her maiden name and first husband's name the wrong way round
I have details of her second and third marriages - she married out of the Jewish faith. I also know she had a sister called Fay, and that she claimed to have Sir Sebag Shaw QC as a cousin. I think that claim is substantially true as she went to visit him in London and had kept several newspaper cuttings relating to his court cases.
I apologise for the vaguenmess of the information, but I'd really appreciate any help on how or where to start searching Scottish records.
