He wasn't the informant on a death cert I suppose?  That would very possibly give his address, and be easy to lose track of as it would be a record that doesn't directly relate to him.

Jane :-)

Have you checked Electoral registers?

Was he married at that time - have you checked the 1921 census

Hi thanks fircreply. Yes 1921 hevlived Sourh Bank Avenue andctes hecwas married. Have electoral registers for him until 1925.
Tried Bishopthorpe search and dont get anything ? Whick I think is a bit strange but I do know he was in Bishopthorpe after which Sunderland in 1933. I was hoping the document I had would solve the problem for accuracy of his exact whereabouts and when.
I've found him in the the York City Trade Directory Year Book 1929 and 1930 but as Bishopthorpe - no Street address

Hi thats great. Some progress.

I'm hoping for someone to shine a light on this. Some years ago I sourced a document online which gave me the information that my Grandfather Frederick Hardy was living in Copmanthorpe Road Bishopthorpe York sometime in the 1920s. Ive lost it and not sure what I did to get it in the first place. I would be most grateful if anyone has an insight on this. Thanks.

Yorkshire (East Riding & York) / Sir Ralph Bigod

Hi, I hope someone can help.
In his book" Yorkshire in the reign of Elizabeth 1 " John Rushton states on p 141, Sir Ralph Bigod gave husbandman Thomas Hardy his long standing tenant of the manor place and 24 oxgangs at Bainton   licence to enclose or dike the desmesne lands in 1531. I am trying to finding out  more about Sir Ralph and his connection  to Bainton but  can't find a connection, other than stated in John Rushdens text. Any ideas ? Thanks.

In copyhold tenure, it was usually for the lives of three named individuals, for example a man, his wife, and their son. But there could be other variations.

Thankyou so much. Really helped my research.

terme of (3) lives and

payeth rent

The number is unclear, but a rental or copyhold tenure for 3 lives was very common.

Thanks. I assume lives refers to generations.

It's always better to post more text than just the odd word you can't read.
Thanks
Is this better.
