Renfrewshire / Re: John McKenzie - Mitchell Library Lookup Request
« on: Sunday 21 August 16 14:08 BST (UK)  »
Hi Red Dog

Thank you for getting in touch and providing me with such detailed information about your family.

Unfortunately, I think we might be searching for different relatives. I haven't been able to match these dates to my tree. Also, I have a Mary McLeod on my tree but she married Alexander McKenzie, not John McKenzie. I'm not aware of any connections with the Stornaway area of Scotland either.

Sorry I can't be of help, I know how frustrating it can be, especially when there are so many John and Alexander McKenzie's in the historical records!

Good luck with your continued search, I hope you are able to find what you are looking for and I continue to search for more info about my Grandfather.

Renfrewshire / New Road, Elderslie - Renamed?
« on: Tuesday 23 April 13 14:03 BST (UK)  »
Me again!  :)

In 1947, my Grandmother gave her address as 5 New Road off Park Avenue, Elderslie, Renfrewshire. I have found Park Avenue on a modern street-map but can't see New Road so I wonder if it's been renamed?

Thank you very much ev, that's exactly what I was looking for  :)

Think I might have to order a copy of this lovely old map to add to my family history collection!

Renfrewshire / Boyd Street, Greenock - renamed? SOLVED
« on: Tuesday 23 April 13 12:02 BST (UK)  »
My Great Grandparents lived at 7 Boyd Street, Greenock but I have been unable to find it on a modern street-map. Does anyone know if the street was renamed?

I'm hoping to visit Greenock in a couple of weeks and would like to visit this street if possible.

Many thanks!  :)

Renfrewshire / Schools in Johnstone

I'm continuing my two year search for information about my McKenzie family. After encountering a few red herrings along the way, I now believe my Father, John (aka Ian) McLeod McKenzie may have attended school in Johnstone. He was born in June 1921.

Does anyone have a list of primary/junior schools that would have existed during the 1920's and 1930's in the Johnstone area? I'd like to find out if there might be any surviving records of the pupils which might help me to find out where he was educated.

Any suggestions as to sources of info will be very gratefully received.

Thank you WeeMary

I couldn't see his name mentioned in this report but it was still a very interesting read.

Renfrewshire / Greenock Blitz - Injuries
« on: Sunday 18 March 12 00:19 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone know if a list exists of those injured during the Greenock Blitz, rather than a list of fatalities?

I know my Grandfather suffered a serious facial injury and he may have been a civilian rather than in active service (as he would have been approx 49 years old at the time).

I'm clutching at straws here but as he was born in Greenock, I'm wondering if he was there during the blitz.

Many thanks
PhoenixRose  :)
