Schools in Johnstone
« on: Friday 15 February 13 09:59 GMT (UK) »
I'm continuing my two year search for information about my McKenzie family. After encountering a few red herrings along the way, I now believe my Father, John (aka Ian) McLeod McKenzie may have attended school in Johnstone. He was born in June 1921.

Does anyone have a list of primary/junior schools that would have existed during the 1920's and 1930's in the Johnstone area? I'd like to find out if there might be any surviving records of the pupils which might help me to find out where he was educated.

Any suggestions as to sources of info will be very gratefully received.

Phoenix Rose,

Where did he live in Johnstone??  it may be easier to work out the school with that info.

Thanks

Yes, it is quite a large town but a further problem is that the postal address also covers several small villages.

I know that the Thorn Primary School (which is now demolished) on Thorn Brae (nearly central Johnstone) is likely to have been around in the 20s/30s but we might have been able to guess which school if we had more information.

I'm just not sure who would be able to help you with a list of schools around in that era.
