Hi, nice to hear from you. Are you related to Joan Jones (nee McInerney) as she was my mother's cousin. Joan's father and my grandfather John McInerney were brothers. I would love to hear back from you when you can.

Kind regards
Chez

Hi Maddys 52, looked again at my family history and found I was on the wrong track, not in Turton at all.  Thanks very much for your reply.

Looking for any information on the Howorth / Haworth / Howarth / Haughworth family of Turton in Lancashire during the 1600s. Specifically John Howorth (etc.,) and his marriage to a Hannah (no surname). Any information about this family will be greatfully received.

Thank you
Chezbrunet.

Lancashire / Re: Holden's of Westhoughton, Lancashire

Hi Adam,
so sorry I have taken so long to reply to your message but I have been rather ill with stays in hospital, so I haven't been able to answer my messages.
I have had trouble with finding information about John as well but I have found something that just might explain why there are no records in the Bolton area regarding his marriage to Betty:-

John was baptised 13/8/1786, parents Richard & Betty Holden of Great Bolton, St Peter,Turton Chapel.
A John Holden of Bolton married a Betty Leach of Rochdale, St. Chad Parish 28/11/1807 (Manchester, England Marriages & Banns 1754-1930 ref: L98/1/4/10)

It could be that they were both working in Rochdale at the time, but is conjecture on my part.

Hope this helps.  Also are you a Holden as well ??

Regards
Chez

Hi Rolnora
yep I have all of them, I am just trying to find more information out about John & Betty and also if Richard is their son.  Can't find any baptism for Richard at all.  Love doing research but it can be quite frustrating at times.

Thanks for the reply

Lancashire / Holden's of Westhoughton, Lancashire
« on: Tuesday 24 March 15 20:24 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
I am trying to find out any information about a John & Betty Holden (b.1786) from Westhoughton.

On the 1841 Census They are listed with William 24, George 11, Mary 10 and Ellen (granddaughter) 18 Living at Lower Terrace, Little Bolton.

I can find a marriage certificate for William, 28 August, 1844 to Mary Graham, where his father is listed as John Holden, occupation Husbandman.

But that is all the information I can find.  I believe that they are also the parents of Richard Holden, born 1804/5, Westhoughton but can find no information to confirm this.

Richard married an Ann Bratherton 29 March, 1835 but I cannot find any other information before that date regarding Richard.  There are varying dates of birth for Richard on the Censuses from 1806 to 1811.

There is a baptism for a Richard b.1805 at Deane, Lancashire with parents Roger & Alice, but I am not sure if this is the right Richard as the marriage records do not record the father's name at that time.

Hope someone can help.

Thanks in advance.

Chez.

Australia / Joseph Currall b. 1874 in Portsmouth Uk
« on: Tuesday 07 October 14 19:08 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find out if Joseph Currall md to a Clara Currall (nee Colefield) emigrated to Australia between 1901 (last UK census, living in Wavertree, Liverpool with his mother Elizabeth and siblings) and 1911 as I cannot find him on any UK Census.  He was born in 1874 to parents Joseph Currall (b. 1846) and Eliza ! (Elizabeth) Chamberlain b. 1848 Queensferry, Cork, Ireland.  They married in Cork but Joseph was born in Portsmouth, UK. They then lived in Northampton and lastly in Liverpool.
The 1901 Census shows Joseph living with his mother and Clara living with her parents with their children.  On the 1911 Census I can find Clara Currall, Joseph Hugh Currall and Dorothy Clara Currall living with her sister in Poulton with Seacombe, Cheshire and she is described as married living on 'Private Means'.
I can also find Clara moving between the UK and Australia with her children a couple of times but nothing for Joseph.  Cannot find a registered death either :-(
If anyone can help I would be very grateful, thank you in advance
regards

Lancashire / Re: Frederick Holden & Family, Bolton
« on: Saturday 08 February 14 09:20 GMT (UK)  »
Hi again,
just seen your message re Richard being born in Westhoughton and being a 'crofter'.  Did you know that the term 'crofter' can also mean working in the making of cloth.  After the cloth was bleached it was put out to dry on huge frames set out on open land which were called 'crofts' and if he was a man who did this his job description would have been 'crofter' and as most of his family worked in the cloth industry which was the biggest employer in that area then it could stand to reason that he was that type of crofter.
If you knew this then obviously I am preaching to the converted as they say.
Hope to talk soon
Chez
