Census Lookup and Resource Requests / 1861 Worldwide Army Index lookup requests
« on: Saturday 08 March 25 19:52 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

Would someone kindly search in the 1861 Worldwide Army Index for George Munson? He was born 1843 in Colchester and should be stationed in Kowloon.

Many thanks

Thanks Alan. This is David’s son, Joseph Raven Yeldham.

Dawes Road is in an area formerly known as Fulham Fields. Present day, “St Andrews Fulham Fields” church is about 5-10 minutes walk from Dawes Road.

London and Middlesex / Metropolitan & Eagle Breweries in Fulham

Hi all,

My ancestor David Yeldham was a Brewer operating in Fulham in the 1860s and 1870s. I found a reference to the “Metropolitan Brewery” that he built on Dawes Road in a book called “Fulham Old and New”; it was later known as the Eagle Brewery. The book was published in 1900 so the building still existed then.

I’d be keen to know if anyone else has seen references to these Breweries? Ideally the location on Dawes Road. I’ve looked at some old maps of Dawes Road, but no luck there.

Many thanks,

Ryan.

Hi,

Did you make any progress with your Feredays? Where were they from? My Grandmother is a Fereday from Stoke-on-Trent but her ancestors were from the Tipton area.

Ryan.

Devon / Re: St. David's, Exeter - location question

Hi, just wanted to add a local perspective- St David’s will refer to the parish or neighbourhood (still referred to as such today), not the train station nor one of the streets carrying the name. The station and the streets took their names from the parish church. Putting his residence at St David’s will not mean the train station or its premises. If he wasn’t in town for long, perhaps he was living at a boarding house or guest house; common in St David’s due to the railway and the road to Crediton within the parish - somewhere non-permanent given his almost non-committal, broad use of St David’s.

I think that my Replies #2 and #4 explain this. Also, Kevin's link to the description of the parish #3 also describes the parish of St Davids.

I can reply if I want to
