Hi Diski,

Thank you for all that information, I am working my way through it all slowly.
You mention The History of Crossmolina by Tony Donohue and on page 189 a family of Munnellys. Do you know what year that would be?

Cheers,

Royaly

Hi,
I am researching the MUNNELLY family of CROSSMOLINA. I have found them in the 1901 and 1911 census but would be extremely grateful for any further information you or anyone else may be able to provide. Details are:
JOHN MUNNELLY born abt 1866 in CROSSMOLINA married BRIDGET McNULTY born abt 1867 in CROSSMOLINA. They married abt 1889 in CROSSMOLINA. JOHN MUNNELLY was a TAILOR. I think that the parents of BRIDGET McNULTY were JOHN McNULTY and MARY?

The children of JOHN MUNNELLY and  BRIDGET McNULTY were:
Munnelly   John born abt 1891 in CROSSMOLINA.
Munnelly   Thomas born abt 1893 in CROSSMOLINA.
Munnelly   William born abt 1894 in CROSSMOLINA.
Munnelly   James born abt 1896 in CROSSMOLINA.
Munnelly   Mary Ellen born abt 1898 in CROSSMOLINA.

At some time prior to 11th September 1920 the eldest child John Munnelly (or possibly the whole family) moves to England and John Munnelly marries Ada Jane Evans in Gateshead.

I would really appreciate any information on any of the individuals mentioned above.

Thank you,

Ian Royal

Hi radstockjeff,

I am currently at the Tyne Tunnel not very far at all from the address you seek help with.

The word MARU is I believe an Indian surname and South Shields is now and always has been very multi cultural. Mainly becuase of the docks and foreign sailors staying behind in South Shields rather than returning to their ships. Also Smiths Dock Company Ship builders were in started in South Shields and built ships named HOSEI MARU.
In Japenese the word MARU means round.
Perhaps a look on Google Earth for the location may reveal the shape.

I take it this is the family living there ...Pte George Edward Smith .     British Army 19th Btn Northumberland Fusiliers   from Maru House, 179, Stanhope Rd., South Shields

(d.30th Mar 1916)

Smith, George, Edward. Private, 19/705, Killed on 30th March 1916. Aged 22 years.

Hi Omega,

Thank you so much for this information. I am assuming that the baptism information is from the Parish records for Lewes and that is where the occupation for the father William comes from. Can you confirm this?

It also appears that Ciderdrinker has found some very interesting information for me and a big thank you goes out to you too.
It certainly is the correct family as daughter Sarah (Ann) Holmes does indeed marry John Airey in Kendal in 1846. I did have the 1851 census information as well as the 1841 census for the family. However the information regarding the death of Catherine Holmes comes as an extra!
Where did you find the information regarding William being a  Royal chelsea Hospital pensioner who served in the Ist foot Guards.20.6.1827 he got a pension for long service of 27 1/2years.He had been a weaver and served in Canada? It all fits in well with the information from Omega but I do like to record the source of all information if possible.

The marriage of William Holmes to Catherine Jackson in Appleby Westmoreland on 11.04.1820 does seem to fit location and time wise but I am not convinced until I can find another link through the maiden name of Jackson to William Holmes.

Again a very big thank you to you both and could you please provide your sources if possible.

Cheers,

Royaly

Hi,

I have a lot of information relating to Brandon: Census returns 1841 all the way to 1901 and Parish records on Microfiche (some have been transcribed into Excel documents). Obviously a lot on the Royals as well.
John and Jane did have a lot of children but what does not help us is the fact that they had some of them baptised twice! I hunted for ages looking for deaths and burials of some of the children as later ones appeared to be born and given the same names. Only to discover that as far as I can tell from all of the records they had the following children:
Mary Ann Royal Abt. June 13, 1847 (Baptism) and (1851 Census) (1861)
Thomas Royal Abt. March 22, 1848 (Baptism) and (1851 Census)(1861)
John Royal Abt. 1850 (Free BMD) and (1851 Census)(1861)
James Royal Abt. February 22, 1852 (Baptism) also (Abt. October 2, 1853)(1861 census)
Emma Royal Abt. May 22, 1855 (Baptism) also (Abt. January 6, 1856)(1861 census)
Isaac Royal Abt. March 8, 1857 (Baptism)also (Abt. December 28, 1862)(1861 census)
Jane Royal Abt. March 6, 1859 (Baptism)
William Royal (1861 census aged 2 years)
Ellen Royal Abt. December 28, 1862 (Baptism)(1861 census aged 2 months)
Harry Royal Abt. December 28, 1862 (Baptism)
George Royal Abt. April 26, 1866 (Baptism)

Is there anyway that we can exchange email addresses and I can send you information direct?

Do you have any information on any other Weeting Royals?

Cheers,

Ian

Hi,

Just a little information for you as I knew we were connected.

Your John Royal b c 1822 who married Jane Jessup was actually the illegitimate  son of Ann Royal and John Jewell and was born on 4th November 1821 in Brandon at the home of his grandparents John and Mary Royal nee Johnson . He married Jane Jessup in Brandon on 13th June 1846.

Ann Royal, born about 1803 in Weeting, was a bit of a girl and had another illegitimate child, this time a daughter Sophia Royal born in Brandon on 15th May 1824 to a man called David Hammond.

Ann actually went on to marry a man called George Adams in Brandon on 17th September 1826 and went on to have at least 9 children.

She is the elder sister of my great, great, great grandfather William Royal born about 1805.

I have copies of Settlement Orders and Bastardy Orders relating to this which I will gladly send to you if you would like them.

Cheers,

Ian
