Westmeath / Re: Look-up Parish/Diocese Records - McCann Family Westmeath
« on: Tuesday 24 January 12 22:21 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks Shane. I know they were roman catholic. 100%.  But I have no idea of the parish or townland. Hopefully someone who reads this will be researching the family too.  I will pull up the records I have for Patrick in the RCR and see if his birthplace is listed. Fingers crossed. Rhondda

Westmeath / Look-up Parish/Diocese Records - McCann Family Westmeath
« on: Tuesday 24 January 12 21:04 GMT (UK)  »
Surname: McCann
First Name: Maria
Born: between 1837-1840 in Westmeath, Ireland

Father: Patrick McCann b. ~1817 Ireland
Mother: Elizabeth b. ~ 1819 Ireland (this is from a census so it is possible that she is a step-mother and not the birth mother)

Maria McCann (married surname Barnett) has been found in censuses in Canada in the years 1851 (McCann), 1871 (Barnett), 1881 (Barnett), 1891 (Barnett), and I believe 1901 she was listed under her maiden name as an inmate (her husband died 1892).  She died 18 Mar 1908 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

Her father Patrick McCann was a member of the military and joined the Royal Canadian Rifles.  I have his military records with the RCR.  He was in census records in Canada from 1851; however, I believe the RCR were stationed in Newfoundland, in 1861 and there is no specific census for that time-frame.  I am not sure if he remained in Canada after he was discharged from the RCR, if he remarried and settled (there is a pensioner in Ontario that matches his data but the spouse is different) in Ontario with his daughter and her husband, or returned to Ireland (the "family story").

I have only just come across a newly available death record for Maria's son that stated her county of birth was Westmeath.  I have never searched for Irish records before and am not sure where to start.

I have run a couple basic searches and came across a record indicating the baptism of Mary McCann in the Meath Diocese in 1838.  It lists her parents at Pat McCann and Ellen Duff.  Could "Ellen" be used a shortened form of "Elizabeth"?  I'm not sure and thought to post a request for possible look-ups...or general advice as to how to proceed.

I looked online and sources indicate that "Meath" diocese was in Westmeath in 1837...but I am not sure if more than one county can have a "Meath" diocese...as the above record indicated that the county was in "Cavan" and the Parish was Kingscourt and Enniskeen...

Any help with muddling through this would be very much appreciated!  Thank you to anyone who has taken the time to read this!

Truly, Rhondda

Hi Edna, Just to confirm, Peter and Ellen married 14th Nov 1830 in Prescot?  This is my step-mom's ancestors so I was trying to help her with the research :o)  Thanks for responding! Rhondda

Devon Lookup Requests / Birth/Baptism 1802 Buckland Brewer - HEAL
« on: Thursday 14 May 09 02:02 BST (UK)  »
Hi!

I was hoping that someone could perform a search for a baptism/birth for Charity Heal who was born 1802.  In the 1841 census in Buckland Brewer, it indicates she was born in county Buckland Brewer and in the 1851 Census in Canada it indicates she was Wesleyan for religion (she was married 1829 to William Cole).

I have confirmed from one of her daughter's registered births in 1840 that her maiden name was Heal and at that time she was living in Tythecott Mill.

Any information on her birth/baptism or her parents/siblings would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
Rhondda

Derbyshire Lookup Requests / LOOK UP REQUEST - PRE 1837 - OXLEY
« on: Thursday 18 September 08 03:14 BST (UK)  »
Good day! I am hoping someone might have some time to check parish records for William Oxley born about 1786, who married Elizabeth ? born about 1797 in Cadson Derbyshire.

They were married before 1830 as the only child I have is my ancestory Enoch Oxley who was born 1830 in Belpher, Derby.  I have already found the census records for the family in 1841 and 1851 and then for Enoch until his death in 1899.

In 1841 the family was in Chesire, Ashton Under Lyne, Dukinfield.

In 1851 Elizabeth and Enoch were in Ashton Under Lyne, Lancashire, Dukinfield.

Any help with this would be very much appreciated.

Thank you!
Rhondda

Hi Trevor, Ok, I reread my email and it is confusing.  It even confused me when I went back the first time to answer your question...
I'm sorry!!!
Here is what I meant to ask...can you check for a baptism for Elizabeth White - daughter of Robert and Ann (or Robert and Sarah- Sarah could be Robert's second wife as I found her in the 1851 census with Elizabeth and she was listed as Elizabeth's mother).

Also a marriage for Elizabeth White to ? Adams...pre 1837 as well.  Then his death as he would have died pre 1837.

And finally the marriage and deaths of Robert and Ann White...assumming that Ann is not actually 'Sarah' in the 1851 census.

Thanks so much :o)

Hi Trevor, I was hoping you could check one record for me please.  I believe I have the wrong death/burial information for Elizabeth Pugsley (nee Pasmore).  I believe she died before the 1841 census.  I had her death as after the 1841 census but this doesn't make sense with the marriage information for John and his second wife Elizabeth Adams (nee White) who I have as married 17 Nov 1837 in Tampford Brett, Somerset.

So I was hoping you wouldn't mind checking for me for a death pre 1837 for Elizabeth Pugsley (nee Pasmore).

I linked this to the previous search you did for me so hopefully this will provide the information you need to take a look.

John Pugsley born about 1785, Cutcombe, Somerset (parents were Richard and Joan (Venn)).  Married Elizabeth Pasmore 15 Oct 1799 in Wootton Courtney, Somerset and had 6 children that we know of (details are in the email lower in this line).  His second wife, also named Elizabeth (widowed surname Adams, maiden name White) was the one who he married in 17 Nov 1837.

I have her parents as Robert and Ann but I think her mother's name was Sarah as I believe I have located her separately in the 1851 census with her mother who is a widow.  If you could take a quick peak for her baptism too I'd appreciate your help!

If I could request one further item it would be if you were able to locate the deaths for William and Elizabeth Pasmore (Elizabeth's parents).

In the previous response you had indicated "Johns first wife Elizabeth PASMORE they married on 15 Oct 1799 at Wootten Courtney. Elizabeth was bap. on 10 Aug 1779, parents William and Elizabeth. I cannot see a marriage in W/C for them."

I was hoping you might be able to check deaths? Or burials as I can not find anything for them in the IGI.

Many thanks,
Rhondda
