Thanks Sancti
The suggested entry has turned out to be the right one. I'll contact the soctlandspeople site to see if they can update their index.
Thanks again to everyone for their advise and help.

Fife / Bayne family missing from 1861 Census!!
« on: Monday 10 March 08 21:48 GMT (UK)  »
I found some details about  Robert Bayne (born - 04/05/1826) his wife Christina Patrick (born - 1828) and their 6 children on a web site (Ancestry.co.uk) that shows them staying at Breckmont Cotton in the Registration District of Leuchars, Fife at the time of the 1861 census.

I've accessed the Scotlandspeople site tonight to get a copy of the offical census for the family but have been unable to trace an entry under Robert or any other member of the family.

Has anyone ever come across this problem before?

Hi Sancti

Thanks for the details. Have checked both the possible marriages that you came up with and neither one is my Agnes Smith. Agnes was named after her mother Agnes Kirk.
I'm starting to wonder of she has moved out of the country because I couldn't find anything for her at Edinburgh.
Thanks again for your help

Fife / Andrew Smith's children
« on: Sunday 10 February 08 21:15 GMT (UK)  »
My GG grandfather, Andrew Smith, had 20 children. I've been able to trace details for 16 of them but have been unable to find dates of death for the following -

John Smith.  Born 27/09/1861 in Cupar, Fife.
The latest details I have been able to find for him is a 1871 census entry in Cupar,Fife.

Agnes Smith. Born 28/11/1862 in Cupar, Fife.
Latest infromation held is a 1881 census entry in Kirkcaldy, Fife

Alexander Smith. Born 19/03/1972 in Cupar Fife.
Latest information held is a 1902 birth cert for his son Andrew, who was born in Creich.

I've tried to find the details on line (e.g on Scotlands People site) and at The Edinburgh Records Office.

Does any one out there know what happened to them?

Fife / Re: 1841 census look up

Have found a David Hutchison, fisherman, born about 1791 living at North Street St Andrews in the 1841 census. The other members of the household are given as David Hutchison (1816), Helen Hutchison (1826), Jean Hutchison(1826) and Helen Kirk (1838) on the Ancestry.co.uk site. No other details given. Was unable to find an Elspeth Hutchison. Could she have been married by 1841?

I hope you find your David Hutchison in St Andrews because the Ceres Census returns were lost in transit to Edinburgh.

Good Luck with your search

Some records for the County Home are held at the Parish House, St Aidens Cathedral, Enniscorthy.

Thanks for information, Joe.
I did not know about Andrew, Barbara and Alexander. Will check them out next time I'm in Edinburgh.
I've been unable to find anything else for Thomas after he leaves Ann Peat, before her death in 1871. I'm beginning to believe I never will be able to solve the mystery of what happened to him.
Thanks again for you help

Fife / Alexander Roderick McKenzie
« on: Saturday 03 February 07 22:00 GMT (UK)  »
I know that the above named was born in Crail on 21/04/1883 to Alexander McKenzie and Margaret Ritchie. He was Christened on 18/05/1833 but does not appear in the 1841 census return with the rest of the family.

I've checked the Sexton books for Crail and the LDS web site but have been unable to find any further trace of Alexander.

Can anyone give my any idea as to where I could try next.
