Thanks everyone - I think that the Earsdon one makes the most sense.

Anyone any idea where this is? I know it is in Northumberland and likely to fall in the Tynemouth district for BMD but I cant find it on any maps or any records other that a couple of census's as a place of birth.

Europe / Re: Recommendations for paid Polish/German research
« on: Friday 18 January 13 22:29 GMT (UK)  »
I have tried roots and several American sites that specialise in Polish ancestry but have found nothing unfortunately. I would love to get something for my grandmother before she dies - she has seen me go back hundreds of years with my other branches and yet I have nothing on hers.

Thanks for the reply - I am looking for someone to do the research for me as paid genealogy research. I have spent several years looking at online resources with little success.

Europe / Recommendations for paid Polish/German research
« on: Friday 18 January 13 21:42 GMT (UK)  »
My Polish grandmother would love me to her family tree but I have so little to go on and she is now in her mid 90's I cant help thinking that paying for a researcher would be a better idea than slogging alone with little success.
Can anyone recommend a paid researcher who does polish catholic research?

Ireland / Re: Looking for a marriage and birth - no idea where in Ireland though

I know a little about his army career - but only in so much as he was in the Blackwatch and was at waterloo. I am getting some research done at kew by a friend of mine which will hopefully give me something more to work on.
I know that the son isnt the only child born in Ireland and that several others were born in Gibraltar and also there is a link with Wrexham.
I have them in Edinburgh by 1841 and he has already retired from the army at that point. He is always listed as a Chelsea outpensioner and this is another line that needs researching.
The name Gold has been used as a middle name in several children (as is often the case in Scots families - female maiden names used as middle names) although I have seen it written as Gould on one family record for one of the children.

Ireland / Looking for a marriage and birth - no idea where in Ireland though
« on: Saturday 11 February 12 17:31 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for a marriage of my 4x great grandparents - Angus McLeod (born in Edinburgh) and Jane Gold (born in Ireland) - both born around 1790ish and married before 1815.
I am also looking for the birth of their son Robert Gold McLeod - possibly around 1815.

The reason I have so much bother with these people are that Angus was an army man (Blackwatch) so they could have been anywhere when they married and anywhere when Robert was born. Family folklore even suggests that Robert was born at Waterloo.

Any help or pointers very greatfully received.
