Hi,
It is so nice to hear from you. My dad grew up with Bob and Raymond (Peggy) Duff.  Although I think Raymond was a bit younger than my dad.
I wonder if you knew them?
Carrickfergus is so beautiful!

Hello there!
I believe you are connected to the Browne family in Islandmagee.  My father, Captain Robert Morton Browne did visit his uncle, David Browne and his family in Philadelphia in the 1930’s and possibly during WW2.  My dad was a merchant convoy Captain on the trans Atlantic route during the war.  I don’t remember a George Browne, but I believe we are related.  My dad’s father was one of 7 (8 - one died infancy) from Islandmagee on the farm at Loughford.  My grandfather, was also a sea-captain as many Islandmagee men took up that noble profession!  Unfortunately my grandfather’s ship was sunk by an enemy submarine in 1915.  My grandmother wasn’t connected to the Islandmagee family very much after he was killed.  David Browne left as a young man to seek his fortune as a linen merchant, I believe and I did read somewhere that he was encouraged by his uncle George in the US.  That is all I can add. I hope this helps.  Best wishes to you from Canada!

Hi
I think my dad thought his uncle David was a lawyer.  I think he had two daughters?  My uncle was John Nelson Browne (obviously they liked the name John Nelson).   My uncle never married.  He was an educator in Belfast -- and he was head of the English Department at the Belfast Technical Institute for many years.   My uncle was a great Irish folklore story teller.   My father knew some of the Browne relatives:  The Duffs, the Peels and the Steeles.  Liz

Yes we are related.  We live in Canada.   I don't have much to tell.  My father, Captain Robert Morton Browne, was a sea captain too.  I remember he talked about visiting his uncle David Allen in Philadelphia ( I think that was the city).  After my grandfather was killed, his wife Elizabeth Morton McGraw-Browne and her two sons didn't have have much contact with the Browne family.  I know that in the 2nd Presbyterian Church in Islandmagee, there is a memorial to my grandfather.  Liz

There is a good book on the history of Islandmagee entitled,
History of Islandmagee by Dixon Donaldson.  It is a reprint from 1927.
My grandfather, Captain John Nelson Browne was born at Loughford House.  He was killed in the WW1 as a result of a German submarine attack, on June 15, 1915.  He was a brother of Thomas Browne.
