Hey! My great grandfather, Thomas Browne, also the brother of John Nelson Browne (Liz from above grandfather), came to America with his brother David Allen Browne. David came to Philadelphia and worked at George Allen’s millinery store in Philadelphia, my great grandfather went to Long Island NY as an Irish linen merchant. I do know the full story and have lots of documentation on the website that I do. I believe that your George Allen was the first who came here and started the store… short version is that he married, had no children, but raised a niece (his wife’s niece). He eventually had his nephew George Allen come from Ireland to take over the store. He eventually was declared incompetent (probably dementia in our world) and his nephew George Allen became the millionaire businessman. I have tons more about him but the genealogy is that the original George Allen’s sister, Isabella Allen Browne, was married to my great grandfather’s uncle, John Browne. Consequently, the nephew who took over, George Allen, was the son of John and Isabella and brother of Mary Allen Duff! David Allen Browne married Violetta Allen, daughter of David Allen, George’s brother.
My grandmother, Dorothy Browne Ryerson, Liz’s dad, Robert Browne, and David Allen Browne, Jr. were cousins. My family tree (which I have Mary on) says she is my 1st cousin 3 times removed - still family!!! Here is my email address - I would love for you to email me and we can make some connections - I can tell you lots more and let you go on the family website I do!
