Hello again Isabel

I'm just curious ...  ;)  ...  can you tell us please why the dates of possible travel to NZ you've given for these WILEY men, is significant ??

Why are you wanting travel information, specifically ??

Hello, thanks for all the information that you have given so far, much appreciated.
A few reasons: I know that I found Hamilton James Wiley travelling with one of his sons to Hawaii, but I can't find the information again 😒
I wondered if they ever came back to NZ. Family stories told that at least one of the sons came back. I think it had something to do with the Mormons, but went back again around 1924/25 or even 1926? If I remember correctly, it was Joseph but now sure.

It looks like Hamilton became a US citizen in August 1917, a few months before he died.  https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-logan-republican/160323908/

In case you haven't seen it, Hamilton's death certificate is here - https://axaemarchives.utah.gov/cgi-bin/indexesresults.cgi?RUNWHAT=IDXFILES&KEYPATH=IDX208420061080

There are mentions of his funeral here - https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-journal/160323985/ and here - https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-journal/160324070/

Much appreciated for the links and information given

Hi again
... not sure how much info you already have for this family, so adding following in case it's of interest.

https://ndhadeliver.natlib.govt.nz/delivery/DeliveryManagerServlet?dps_pid=IE11257436

^  Above is link to the NZ Army file for namesake son of H J WILEY - although son's record (and some electoral roll entries and other items) show he was also known as James Hamilton Walter WILEY.
The NZ birth index reveals an 1881 birth registration (however on NZ Army file his d.o.b. is given as
"1 - 6 - 1887 " ) :
This man married as James Hamilton Walter WILEY in NZ in 1917 to Eileen May WILTON.    He died in NZ on 21 November 1931 and is buried at Masterton.

Thanks, Lucy, for the link and information.

Here is the death notice, published in a New Zealand newspaper,  for Hamilton James WILEY - died USA 1917:

https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers/WDT19180117.2.20

Q.      So does that make your question about him travelling to NZ in 1924/25, redundant ?

Happy to help if you are needing further information for this family (or other).   :)  :)
Thanks, Lucy, for the death notice. If you ever come across any information on the sons, I would appreciate the info.

Hello Group Members,
I am wondering if there is a way of finding out if Hamilton James Wiley (mentioned above) travelled back to NZ with anyone of his sons around 1924/25?

Isabel

Only just noticed .... you've mentioned in your topic heading that Hamilton James WILEY died in Utah, USA in 1917  ??     Is that year correct ??  Added :  see later post re: death notice
[ You've next asked if he'd travelled back to NZ in 1924/25 ??  ]

Hi Lucy, thanks for correcting my post. I did change it! Any other information would be greatly appreciated.

Hello

New Zealand passenger lists can be found at the FamilySearch.org website.
[Added:  They may not necessarily contain lists of persons travelling from USA.     Prudent to also check other spellings of surname - e.g. "wylie"   ;)]

Does the following article relate to the WILEY family you seek ?  (*  see last paragraph )

 https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers/WDT19310117.2.19

Thank you, Lucy, appreciate your reply. This is the family I am looking for. I will have a look through that link that you gave me.
Cheers, Isabel

Hello Group Members,
I am wondering if there is a way of finding out if Hamilton James Wiley (mentioned above) travelled back to NZ with anyone of his sons before 1917?
Joseph Orson Luther Wiley 1891 NZ-1959 Utah, USA
Rudolph John Wiley 1898 NZ-1930 Utah, USA
George Veenman Wiley 1900 NZ-1982 Washington, USA

Or if any of the sons travelled back to NZ alone around 1924/25?
Any help greatly appreciated.

But I do need to confirm this thought :-\
I don’t know what you want to

How are you related / connected to Hector Sutherland?

Oh I do wish that I was a clairvoyant 😊
I just want to confirm that I have the correct Hector in my tree.

I have a military record for a Hector Sutherland born in Tongue 1808. Joined 1828 aged 20 discharged 1838 aged 30.
There were no parents or wife documented on his record.

I have found a Hector Sutherland living with James and Jane Campbell nee Sutherland in Durness in 1841 as a pensioner.

James and Jane Campbell were my 2 x great grandparents. Hector was Jane's brother.

I have not found Hector in the 1851 or 1861 census. Or a marriage or death.

I  agree that the Hector that came to Australia is not the same Hector  b: 1808.
But I haven't confirmed that to my satisfaction. And there are a lot of trees on Ancestry with the Hector who did go to Australia with the parents of my Hector 1808, Tongue.

I always try to get the correct information and buy the certificates.

There are about 7 children (siblings for Hector] baptised to George and Jean in Durness up to 1833
Yes, I have found these. But I don't think that this the family/Hector that I am looking for.
George Sutherland and Jean McLeod, Island Roan had a son baptised on the 15 May 1808, Hector. I believe this Hector had a military service record entered 1828 discharged 1838. In 1941 he is living with his brother-in-law and sister James and Jane Campbell nee Sutherland as a pensioner.

But I do need to confirm this thought :-\
