Thanks Alan - I'm curious as to how he was injured - will have to find out what was going on at that time.

Hoping this might help, which I copied from St. John's Church, Hoxton website. It looks to me that St. John's was separate to St Leonard's.

"St John’s Hoxton was established in 1826 as a ‘Chapel of Ease’ in the Parish of Shoreditch. It soon became an independent parish church serving the rapidly growing population of Hoxton. In 1826 it was the only parish church serving Hoxton - but by 1896 there were 9 parishes in Hoxton! In the 21st century, we’re back down to three parishes serving our neighbourhood: Holy Trinity, St Anne’s and St John’s. "

I'm struggling to read the two attached files relating to Alexander Burniston, RN.

Can anyone help? Looks like he enlisted in 1856 (and died 1874) but that's all I can work out.

Hi - I posted this for another family history society member.  She has a name (Dudley Black) but all the potential matches we've found are too young.  Her gt-aunt was engaged to this man and she was born in 1874.  I've come to the conclusion now that Dudley was a middle name :(

Thanks Alb R - if it's not too much trouble I'd love a copy but please only if you have time.
