For Sale / Wanted / Events / Pubs and Inquests in Minera by J Clifford Davies
« on: Wednesday 27 December 23 10:47 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone know if the book, Pubs and Inquests by J Clifford Davies is still available?  I have searched online but cannot find a copy.  My 2 x gt grandfather, Simon Jones, was killed in a gas explosion at the Minera Lead Mines in November 1868 but as there was an election at the time, it was not reported in the local newspapers.  Any help would be appreciated.

She was only known as Meg.   She had a sister called Glan and her mother was Lizzie.  We do not know her surname but research has suggested Davies.

Glan  had an illegitimate son David and married a man called Iorwerth.  He died in a quarry accident. Meg later married a man called Philip and had two children, Jean and Mair. Family members were only children at the time and there is no one now left to ask.

The lady in question was called Meg (her surname could have been Davies).  I do not know her address except that she lived in the basement flat of the Monty Fine store.

One of my great aunts apparently lived in a basement flat under the Monty Fine Department Store on the Penrhiwceiber Road, Penrhiwceiber in the 1950s.  Does anyone know where on the Penrhiwceiber Road this store was situated?  I cannot find anything on the internet, and electoral rolls do not appear to be available online, so any help would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

Hello karlo and thank you for your reply.  The only other info I have about my uncle is that he was born on 9 Dec 1919 in Pontypridd, Glamorgan, South Wales but by 1940 he was living in Coventry, Warwickshire, England. I have not been in touch with his children for years since they moved away, so I am unlikely to find out anymore through them.

I will contact another cousin, who told me about the Belsen story, who may have more. Also thank you barryd for the link. I will pass this onto her.

Thank you ColC for finding three Garnor births in Rugby.  These I will follow up to see if they are related.

Also thank you Annette. Now that her name has been revealed it may make it easier for others to find her.

Thank you for the replies. Thinking about it she would have needed her birth certificate for a passport, driving licence, pension and probably when she started school.  She may not have held a passport or driving licence but as she died in her late 60s she would have needed her birth certificate when applying for her pension. I can only assume she was registered in another name and changed later but none of the birth records match the date, place of birth and mother’s maiden name (Garnor) so still no idea how to proceed further.
