That's brilliant!  Thanks Elaine!

Looks like we have Richard/Thomas Bradley nailed.

It has also solved another little puzzle for me - whether there was another John Martin who was an 'agricultural' labourer.

There were a number of infant/child deaths between 1826-39, all fathered by John Martin (labourer).  Elizabeth and John Martin apparently died in 1848, aged 66 and 73 respectively, so it was unlikley that they were the parents of these children, so who was?  The birth of John (jr) in 1803 and the liklihood that he would follow in his dad's agricultural footsteps, so to speak, provides that possibility.

And it looks as though I'll be scandalising the more senior members of the family (again).  A John Martin and Elizabeth Preston married at Sileby on 10 Aug 1801.  On 1 December 1801, James, son of John and Elizabeth Martin, was baptised....  ;)

Probably just as well we don't have Henry as a third name, Kris - we'd be trying to sort out if he was a Tom, Dick or Harry!  :)

Richard is recorded as being born in Notts (1851 census) but Thomas is shown as born in the county (1841 census).  It is possible that Thomas died late 1841-1842 (thus falling outside the burials data) and Hannah remarried.  The question then is whether at the burial of Matilda in 1845, the name of her natural or step-father would be recorded.  I bow to any advice on this.

There's now an explanation why 'Matilda' appears as an 8 yo in the 1841 census and a 3 yo in 1851.  They are different children. Matilda I died in 1845, Matilda II was born in 1848 and given the same name.

Elaine, if it's not too much trouble, the Martin baptism/burial entries could prove useful, if only for a new lead or to confirm a theory (or to destroy it!)

Thanks to both of you for your assistance.

Wow, thanks for all of that Kris!

Now I'm intrigued.  The kids' names sort of fit and Hannah's age fits, but in 1851 she is apparently married to Richard Bradley.  Coincidence?  Name change?  Widowed and remarried to brother-in-law?  More and more interesting!

Thanks also for the John and Elizabeth Martin lead.  I thought that they had left Sileby by 1841 ... now to rewrite the hypothetical history.

It does - MANY thanks, Elaine.

The issue I've run up against time & again is the multitude of Martins in Sileby and all with the same set of names (Johns, Daniels, etc.).

Your piece of information seems to corroborate John & Elizabeth Martin as my greatx3 grandparents.

Following up on a clue provided by Mike - I'd like a 1841 list of members of the household which included Hannah Bradley (b Hannah Martin, Sileby 1811-14).

Also any baptismal or banns information from Sileby for Hannah Martin.

Thanks again.

Thanks for that Mike - and sorry for the delay in responding to your kindness.

Unfortunately, problem with the 1841 Sileby census information you have provided is that 6 year old Hannah in 1841 can't be 40 year old Hannah in 1851 ....

Need a 30 yo (or thereabouts) Hannah.  In fact probably Hannah Bradley.

Thanks

Geoff

Yes!!  Thank you Mike!

I've come across a few Daniel Martins in Sileby, but mostly framework knitters.  The age/birthplace and occuption fit.

This is the first "appearance" of Hannah for me and her birthdate in 1811 helps to "fit" some other bits & pieces.

The Wilkinson line just seems to go on and on at Sanvey gate.

Just wish I could find Daniel ... or Hannah ... and parents in 1841....

To be honest, I haven't drilled back that far with the Pilmores, Louise!

I have Robert Pillmore (sic), age 41, in Teigh in 1881.

Lucy, John & Bridget may fit in - I'll keep your "clue".

I have hit some brick walls and am seeking new leads.

Daniel Martin was probably living in Leicester in 1841.  Possibly Sanvey Gate - St Margret's(?) parish in Leicester.  Definitely living there in 1851.

Probably in same household with Robert Wilkinson and other members of Wilkinson family (Sarah, Thomas).

What I'd like to be able to pick up are other members of the family.  Perhaps John Martin (Daniel's father), or other members of the family.

Many thanks.
