Lanarkshire / Re: Lanarkshire Pits

I had absolutely no idea miners were treated so badly.  I've had miners in my family from 1800 right up to the 1990s when all the pits closed.  I'm disgusted that these salt of the earth guys (and girls, a few lady relations worked at the pithead) could be treated so shabbily.

Thanks for the info

Thank you so much.  I have already found a reference to my great grandad, who died after a pit accident in 1925.

Going keep looking, it will at least give me an idea of conditions etc.

Thanks again.

Can anyone help me find out which pits my ancestors may have worked at.  Almost ALL my male relatives were miners.

Thanks

Lanarkshire / Hamilton Burgh Band
« on: Wednesday 09 December 09 19:07 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks to the wonderful help of Sancti, I found the graves of my great grandparents.  But this opened up a new question.  My great, great Uncle James Thomas Kane was one of those buried with them and under his name it says late Bandmaster.  Under that, Hamilton Burgh Band.  Do anyone have anything on this band?  Is it still going etc?  James Thomas Kane died aged 37 in 1921.

Anything?  Anyone? Please!

Well it was a confusing couple of days.  tried getting in touch with South Lanarkshire Council re graves and they said try North Lanarkshire, which I did but they said try South Lanarkshire.   ???  Anyway out of the blue South Lanarkshire sent an email with the info I required.  The Rellies are buried in Bent Cemetery in Hamilton.  So at least someone in the Lanarkshire Councils knows where the town is!!   :P

PS Anyone know anything about Bent Cemetery??
