Thanks Wildcats. More great info.

Yes, this is the family I'm assisting with the research on.
I don't suppose there is any further details on Edward William(s) Kirby and Emmaline Kirby?
Edward was the father of 3 known children, born in the USA: Walter, Harold (died. WW1) and Bruce - of which I've sourced Marriage and Death/Probate records for these. Also a query regarding the KIRBY located in Saagkuilen Portion 3 at Patensie, and if they too belong to my research?

Hector Durbrow Kirby's second marriage was to Rosemary Margaret Halse, and this family has been extensively researched by others.  :)

Now to my Other dead-end -
Susan Margaret Kirby is currently married to Michael Grant, with no children.
Susan's first was to Daniel Christoffel Delport. Their Children are (1) Kathryn Megan Delport married to Hamish McRae, and (2) Joelene Helen Delport (the friend I'm doing the research for).

I was able to find Death record for Daniel Christoffel Delport on https://www.identitynumber.org/research/ - direct record https://www.identitynumber.org/research/death-records-results.php?id=4290318.

Unfortunately I don't have a membership, and I'm unable to find any further information. Joelene believes he died 23 Aug 1993 in Pietermaritzburg, and possibly an Uncle 'Richard' Delport, who may have died in Durban. She believes there is also a sister - Delyse, and the name James Erasmus, or to that effect.

Sorry to be so ambiguous - but any information would be received graciously!  :) :)

Thanks again,
Meg

Apologies for a query on a tangent ... my question is in relation to the family names buried.
(Please point me to the right direction, If I've come to the wrong place.)  ;)

Quote
"Pakenhams buried on our farm Saagkuilen Portion 3 at Patensie, Eastern Cape, South Africa. ... other Beans, a Damant, a Kirby and a Paterson. Robert Thompson Pakenham is buried at nearby Hankey"

KIRBY is the name I'm most interested in, as I'd found in the "South African Military History Society Easter Cape Branch Newsletter No.83 August 2011" http://samilitaryhistory.org/11/p11augne.html

Quote
Lt Col Walter Houx Kirby, MC, who was born in San Diego, California. His family settled in Hankey during 1898, where his father was secretary to the mission station. In 1906, Walter left home and found his way to Kimberley

I've been able to find very little on Edward Williams Kirby, nor his wife Emmaline (Emma) nee. Smith. 3 of their children were born in the USA: Walter, Harold (died. WW1) and Bruce - of which I've sourced Marriage and Death/Probate records for these. Perhaps the KIRBY located in Saagkuilen Portion 3 at Patensie, belongs to my research?

The direct family connection I'm seeking is that of "Hector Durbrow 'Tony' Kirby", with a Death Record, but no details of family. He was b. 26 Apr 1904 • Hankey, and d. 30 MAY 1973 • Riverside, Bulawayo. His granddaughter understands he was married twice - I only have the record of his second marriage.

Long Shot, but any information is greatly appreciated.

Kind regards
Meg.

Yes, Thankyou. I did see that they hadn’t been online for a while. I’m doubting anyway, but that’s for your input. Cheers

Hi Ashe,
I too have John Morgan m. Mary Glancy/Clancy in the tree that I am working on.
I have been able to find a lot of information on the children of John and Mary - especially through Newspaper notices (Belfast), but nothing prior to their marriage in 1806 (Shercock, Co. Cavan).
Through the UK, British Army and Navy Birth, Marriage and Death Records, 1730-1960, I (and you also) may have seen the "Statement of Service of Quartermaster Mr John Morgan of the 52nd Regiment - born Bailieborough Co. Cavan Ireland DOB 24th June 1785. Age on his first Entrance into the Army, 22 years - 101 days."
Happy to share any further information with you - and perhaps you too have something to offer.
Regards

Hi Malcolm

I know you posted this some time ago but have just came across it.

Catherine Morgan b26 Apr 1815 Canterbury, Kent, England.

She married Rev Harcourt 5 Jan 1850, at the parish Church of Killinkere, Co Cavan, Ireland.
Re the IGI + records of their marriage in Dec 1849, they may have had both a civil and religious ceremony????

Catherine was the daughter of John and Mary Morgan nee Glancy. John was from Bailieborough, Co Cavan, Ireland, and joined the British army in 1807. He was stationed at various posts throughout  Europe (incl Canada) in his 30 yr service, and their children were born at various places. At this stage I have no information of Mary's birthplace.

Information sourced from John's service record, as well as research by family members.

Catherine's youngest brother Richard was my gggrandfather, who migrated to Australia in 1853.

Hi Ashe,

I'm heading out on a limb here, as the research I'm doing for Captain John Morgan (1785) - gr888 grandfather. I've been attempting to source his Army Service Record - mostly from FindMyPast, without success. I'm happy to pay for the records, but I am struggling to narrow down the births of his children with Mary Glancy - descending from:

John Morgan 1805 (Born in Canada, in the Navy) m. Sara Gibbin
Richard Francis Morgan 1830 (migrated to Aust. 1853) m. Jane Burns
Richard Francis Morgan 1869 m. Mary Ann Bowman
John Morgan 1902 (migrated back to England 1920's) m. Jane Weir Clark, and
Richard Francis Morgan 1933 (England)

Just wondering if you might point me in the right direction - as I'm doing my research from Australia, and unable to find anything concrete.

Thanks - in advance,
regards
Meg

Hi David,
To answer you previous question(s) - I am, indeed 'CockaleechieSoup' and I found this thread by 'googling' "James Messenger" and "Marianne" - initially seeking marriage details.
I had - at the same time - been trying to find marriage details for James' sister "Mary Ann Messenger" and discovered she was married to "George Bance", which also brought up this thread, as their daughter "Emily Bance" married "James Graves" - the youngest son of "Thomas Hand" and "Sarah Graves".
Really, this was an ideal connection.
I hope any of my research is helpful to you all.
Regards
Meg

I am Linda.

William Hand is my 5th Gr8 Grandfather  :)
G/G/G/G/Gmother - Marianne Hand (1790-1863) married to James Messenger (1782-1858)
G/G/G/Gfather - James Messenger (1814-1863) son of Marianne Hand & James Messenger
G/G/Gmother - Elizabeth "Eliza" Messenger (1849-1914) daughter of James Messenger & Louisa Boyd
G/Gfather - Nathaniel George Richardson (1874-1954) son of Eliza and Thomas Richardson
Grandfather - Thomas Nicholas Kemp Richardson (1911-1985) son of Nat & Edith Roberts
My Dad - John Charles Richardson (1942) son of Tom & Aileen Roberts

We also have a 'double-up' with Nathaniel George Richardson's sister, Rebecca Susanna Richardson [1842–1913] also marrying Eliza Messenger's brother, John Arthur Messenger [1839–1870].

I hope that helps.

Regards
Meg Richardson
