Cheshire / Barons of Shipbrook Location
« on: Sunday 10 January 10 01:18 GMT (UK) »
The purpose of this posting is to thank CharlotteCH, Stanmapstone, and KathB for the very good help that they extended to me. I set out to find the location of the residence of the Barony of Shipbrook in Cheshire County. Thanks to their help and the help of others, I believe that I have found that location. Along the way I was also helped by Helen Green, Group Leader of the Northwich Group of The Family Society of Cheshire, and by Rachel Donlon at the Northwich Library, which contains the local studies library. Shipbrook is where KathB said it would be. At that location is a large farm called Shipbrook Hill Farm. The proprietor of that farm is Simon Bennett. The farm has a website, and on that website has a statement on it that in part says "Shipbrook Hill Farm is 130 hectares lying either side of the River Dane in Cheshire, The farm was the site of Shipbrook Castle built by Richard de Vernon who came to Britain in 1066 with William the Conqueror." The website also has a very nice map of the farm, which shows just how it lays relative to surrounding roads, the river, and other landmarks. Again, thanks to all of you.
