Montgomeryshire / Francis & Richards of Montgomeryshire
« on: Saturday 13 August 11 00:17 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I'm looking to delve deeper into my Welsh Roots - but at the moment have hit one heck of a brick wall.

My Great Great Great Grandfather was Evan Francis. He was born around 1808 - 1811 and according to Census records he was born in Llangadfan. He died in 1897 in the Parish of Cemmes, Montgomeryshire. He Married Anne Richards on 6 April 1850 and Evan's Father is given as David Francis

(Anne was born around 1824 in Cemmes the Daughter of John Richards and Anne who's maiden name is possibly Jones).

If anyone could tell me how i could find more information on the parents and siblings of Evan Francis and Anne Richards i would be very grateful as they are as far back as i can go at the moment.

Many thanks,

Keelan McKenzie

« on: Monday 25 July 11 16:37 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm looking for anyone who is descended from any McCook's or Cook's from Argyllshire. The main areas of interest for me are Killean and Kilchenzie and Saddell and Skipness.

I have got back so far as my 5x Great Grandparents William McCook and Mary Dewar who were Married on the 7th October 1798 in Killean and Kilchenzie. So far I have found 5 children of their - all boys.

They are -

John McCook. 25 February 1801 - 5 October 1888. Married Mary Taylor.
Duncan McCook. 30 January 1803 - 16 December 1885. Married Elizabeth McGougan.
Archibald McCook. 14 March 1805 - 13 August 1880. Married Janet McMillan.
Donald McCook. 24 March 1808 - ?. No Spouse Found.
William McCook. 23 July 1815 - 9 December 1895. Married Mary McKeich (or Keith).

If anyone recognises these names in their own family, please get in touch. :)

Derry (Londonderry) / Re: Walter Casson & Catherine McGlinchy

Hi both,

I have had a look for the death record for Annie Bosworth nee Casson and it was 31 October 1909. My friend had this date mixed up. So she was born in Londonderry City then?

Well the children that are in the Tree are - Walter 1901, Edward 1903, Anne 1909, Elizabeth 1913 & John 1916.

I don't imagine that an age or father's name was given with the marriage extract you found kingskerswell? I was told she was known as Cassie.

Regards

Keelan

hello!

Well it now seems that Anne was born in England. Im not too sure when they married, but they had their first son Walter in 1901 and i have looked for him and his siblings birth's on the FreeBMD site but none have shown. So the children must have been born in Londonderry, unfortunately i don't know which part. But Walter & Catherine must have married in Londonderry between say 1894 & 1902.

Sorry i can't be more precise, but that all the info i have been given :/

Hi,

I'm researching a Tree for a friend and have come across some Irish in his line. His Great Great Grandfather was Walter Casson Son of Abraham, and was born in Lancashire. His Spouse was Catherine McGlinchy born between 1875 & 1884 in Londonderry. Walter appears on the England census' for 1881 & 1891 but then disappears. Walter & Catherine had a Daughter Anne Casson born 13 October 1910 in Londonderry amongst other children. Would anyone be able to help my find the family of Catherine McGlinchy please?

Thankyou!

Angus (Forfarshire) / Re: Some help with my Osman/Ossman family please!!

Hi Both,

Thankyou very much for looking into this for me. I agree with you and think there must have been some mistake by Elizabeth's Daughter on her Death Certificate.

It is odd though that i can't find a Birth for Elizabeth, nor a Marriage either for her to John Fleming. Their Daughter, Mary Fleming was born around 1835 in Glasgow i think but i can't find a birth for her, nor any possible siblings.

I have found a possible family in 1851. There is a John Fleming who is a Carter Age 50 born in Rennyloanhead, Stirling. His Wife "Mary" who is 44 and was born in Montrose. Their Daughter's Nancy (Agnes) 18 & Mary 16 and a Son John, who is 11. There is also a John Fleming (Carter) & Mary Fleming in 1841, but there are no children listed - apart from that i have nothing on John & Elizabeth Fleming.

Angus (Forfarshire) / Some help with my Osman/Ossman family please!!
« on: Sunday 17 April 11 23:25 BST (UK)  »
Hello everyone,

I found sometime ago that my 4x Great Grandmother Elizabeth Fleming was formerly an Osman/Ossman. On her Death Certificate in 1877 her Daughter Mary McCormick gives Elizabeth's parents names as William Ossman (a Chelsea Pensioner) & Margaret Liddell. I have never heard of this surname Ossman before and am not too sure of it's origins or it's correct spelling. I have tried to find a Birth/Marriage for Elizabeth Ossman with no luck, and also haven't been able to find a marriage or birth for William Ossman. It almost sounds Dutch or or Scandinavian to me!?

Apparently, and according to Elizabeth's Death Certificate and the census' she appears in she was born between 1804 & 1809 in Montford/Montrose..if anyone has better luck than me at finding her birth or any other info on her parents PLEASE let me know! :)

Also, if her father William was a Chelsea Pensioner, does anyone know where i might find info on him?

Many thanks,

Keelan
