Hi Again
Looks like she was in a house after all. Thanks it is from the Manchester Rate Books.  Could quite possibly be my ancestor Hannah Briercliffe/Britcliffe.  Interesting looking into the street name "Hanging Ditch" fascinating.  Thanks will see what else turns up on her.  Regards Dianna

Lancashire / MANCHESTER ELECTORAL ROLL J BRIERCLIFFE
« on: Wednesday 15 May 24 22:56 BST (UK)  »
Hi Everyone
I have been looking on FindMyPast this morning as I have a subscription for 1 month and thought I would try and find more on my John Briercliffe and variant spellings.

I have tried searching on the various electoral roll lists for Manchester but cannot find him?  Any thoughts/tips please!!!

J BRIERCLIFFE in the electoral roll for
Greenwood Street, Manchester Township in 1835

Not sure if the below is the same John Briecliffe!

https://www.ancestry.com.au/search/collections/2410/?name=_briercliffe

Name:    John Briercliffe
Poll Year:    1836
Hundred:    Salford
Division:    Southern
Parish or Rectory:    Pilsworth
County:    Lancashire.

The address is what interests me as he is on the 1833-1835 Manchester Rate books.  There was nothing of any significance that I could see on the Rate Books (No mention of what may have happened to him??)

Also is there any way to search just the address after 1835 to see who is on the Rate books then ie Greenwood St. Manchester.  Any help is very much appreciated.  Kind regards Dianna

Hi Everyone
Thanks so much for all of that.  Wonderful to see a map of where they actually lived great to add a "visual".   Hannah is then living in 1851 Fleet St Manchester with her married daugther Elizabeth and husband William LOWE.  Hannah is widowed by then.

I am trying to track down some more information from (hopefully) the rate books in Manchester to follow their movements and see where the paper trail ends for John BRIERCLIFFE husband of Hannah.

They are both living at Greenwood st 5 October 1834 when their daughter died (Charlotte)

There is also a J BRIERCLIFFE in the electoral roll for
Greenwood Street, Manchester Township in 1835.

So that is were I am at the moment.  Thanks so much for all the help and information.  Regards Dianna

Lancashire / 1841 Census Manchester

Hi Everyone
I am hoping to find a copy of the 1841 Census for Manchester for my Hannah BRIERCLIFFE/BRICLIFFE age 30/35 with daugther ELIZABETH the address looks like Cumberland St. House 7? ( I think) (The copy I have is nearly illegible)

There’s about 8 people living in this house.  Looks like an 80 year old  ELIZA ? is the first mentioned on this record.  Would love to know exactly where this place is if possible.  Kindest regards Dianna

Looks like Richard made a will perhaps in England as well.  Ann is mentioned there!

Went to England sometime after 1854

He returned on the Stuart Worley Jan 1857

He had with him his wife Ann, Elizabeth Ruffin (niece) and AMELIA TURNER aged 11? Thanks Dianna

Hi Sue I have not seen Richard's will!  Thanks for sending that, will look now.  That's strange not leaving Ann anything.  Hmmm !  Wonder what she did.

Thanks Cass yes that obit for her sister is great and no Ann mentioned.  There was one voyage back from England in ?? I'll find it in a minute when Amelia Turner Elizabeth? Ann and Richard were coming back from the UK.  Thanks need to find that now.  Regards Dianna
