Dave this is a very old message.  I presume you have this info.  Actually just realised it probably relates to why you are asking for descendants.  i found it interesting anyway.  ..

Good morning Ian
That's interesting about soldiers name.  I have looked at that site now Thankyou for the link.

There was one last story I have had relayed to me and that is that Charles said he arrived in New York when Jenny Lind did and his comment was on the celebratory atmosphere.  I think that would be about 1850 - 1852.

Yes indeed where did that Charles Parker come from and it is only his name that is a link and my Charles parker's name is suspect.  The only hope I saw was the date of birth but that isn't much use without knowing his birth location!

I have done Y gene test ( well male descendant has) but not got anywhere yet and it's a challenge to understand too.

This was the thread that intrigued me Ian with this Carl coincidentally having same birth day and month as Charles.  But 30 yrs different.

Karl Albert Lundquist was born 16 Aug 1864 in Härnösand.

Hi Ian
Thankyou very much for your interest .  Yes I read the Will on a visit to the archives in Wellington.  My but you are quick!  I dont think I have the Ark..... Source.  It was a rather random visit as I was a bit lost on the site I'm afraid.

Earlier today I read a post here from someone in Australia.  I can't  find it now but  you had helped them I think. 2014.  What caught my attention is the one family member they could not find had the same birth date except for the year which was quite a few years later .  I doubt a connection but wil post Wwhen I find it.

I meant to add this to my original post

Sten Aminoff made a thorough investigation of the NZ Swedes in his book "Svenskarna i Nya Zeeland" (The Swedes in New Zealand). Charles Parker is there with the information above.

and  There is also a Charles Parker, with home parish listed as England, who mustered out of the Gamla Karleby sjömanshus on 5 August 1841, i found on Arkivdigital when i had a Short term subscription. Could it be the father of ggfather Charles - it's a long shot but one family story is his father was an English sailor.

Thankyou for any suggestions you may have

I am looking for "Charles Parker" born 16 August 1836.  I know this is a long shot but it is difficult to know how to proceed, any ideas or suggestions would be welcome.

I am searching for the family of great great grandfather known as Charles Parker. Born 16th August 1836 (one document says 1834) in Sweden.

We know about him since his arrival in New Zealand in 1856 and his marriage to Harriet Ellen Philps on the 9th April 1860 in Wellington New Zealand. They had 12 children.

His life before arriving in NZ is a mystery. The family stories are that he was born around Gotenburg and had a brother.  Their mother died when they were young and the boys didn't get on with their step mother and ran away to sea at a young age.

the family think he changed his name after jumping ship in NZ but no one really knows. These are all family stories. We can find no record of his arrival in NZ but the date is in his naturalisation paper.

The only information I think is reliable is his date of birth 16th August 1836 though year could be 1834.  However Only one document uses 1834 (below) and it is also the document that gives the middle name Francis otherwise he is documented only as Charles Parker from Sweden.

It is in a book about the Scandanavians in NZ

Parker, Charles Francis
Born 1834 in Sweden
Arrived in NZ in 1856
Naturalized Wellington 3 July 1863
Died Wellington 15 Dec 1917
Farmer
Married Wellington 9 April 1860 to Harriet Ellen Philips, 17, spinster
