Carmarthenshire Completed Requests / Re: Church Records Llanelly Carmarthenshire
« on: Tuesday 18 June 13 17:26 BST (UK)  »
hi again, finally getting back into genealogy after the death of my husband
I now think that this is not the IGI for William Roberts I am looking for.
William Roberts, the son of John Robert Lewis and Mary Roberts, is the nephew of John Roberts the harpist. All the books etc I have read on the Welsh Gypsies list this.
So back to the drawing board :-)

According to the IGI my William ROBERTS was baptised in Llanelly Carmarthen on 9 Sept 1838 (Father John Robert, Mother Mary)
I have a copy of his Military record that lists him born 1836

Can anyone tell me what Churches there are in Llanelly that I may contact to possibly get a photo copy of the entry.
thank you so much for any help!

I have done a lot of research on Abram Woods. I am a direct descendant. Sue we have corresponded in the past and I sent you Dr Sampson's tree.
Were you ever able to connect your family? I have done a lot more research since we were last in touch a few years ago. Let me know

someone did look at the Glyntaff records and William Roberts is not there.
I did get his death cert finally ( I had been off by 2 years) and he died of kidney disease, at age 49. I was also told that if someone was ill they went into the workhouse for medical care.
William was in the Army for 22 years and had a pension so I was surprised he ended up there. Guess a pension wasn't all that much.
will look at the Pontypridd poorhouse site, and will also try Abertridwr.
many thanks for the help. teddy

I have found that this William Roberts buried at St. Gwynno's is not "mine"
I finally found the correct death cert. William died in the Pontypridd Union Workhouse 17  Jan 1885. He was 49 years old.

I have checked Treorcy ,Trealaw, Penrhys ,Ferndale and Glyntaff cemeteries, but guessing he is in a common grave with possibly no record?
many thanks to those who helped me with this. Teddy
