Many churchyards have Burial Indexes that quote a grave reference.
Often worth seeking out.
Try local Family History Society or local Archive.

"R1" as a reference will be totally useless!
If you order a certificate through the GRO you need their reference number.

Or go through LancashireBMD.org.uk, and use the local reference. Which is different to the GRO reference!

Blackburn with Darwen is the Registration District.
Lancashire is Registration County.

Always use the Registration District!

I have a Windows 10 laptop, on which I run RootsMagic 9 (and 7!).
RootsMagic Essentials is a free download of the cut-down version. If you like it very easy to upgrade to the full version.

5th Army was an American Force.

8th Army, being a British & Commonwealth Force would have been awarded the Africa Star.
Ribbon for Africa Star was buff, with a broad red central stripe, dark blue stripe on the left, light blue stripe on the right.
