Family History Beginners Board / Look up Curtis

Hello, It's a long time since I've used Roots look up facility, so please bear with me. I'm attempting to trace my maternal grandfathers family. All I know is his name was Charles Fredrick Froude Curtis. He was a Master builder. He died 26/6/1927 and he may have been living at Webbs Road Clapham London. He was related to Richard John Froude Curtis born 1897 who was in the Malaya Civil Service 1920 to 1950 as Chief Secretary and/or British Resident. Froude appears to be a family name since both Charles' daughters: Dulcie Grace Froude Curtis and Molly Froude Curtis also had that name.

Hello Joe, My next step is to find James' father and his family. I think James had 2 brothers Thomas possibly d in 1875* and David, nothing known except he may have had a daughter Hannah: also James had at least 2 sisters: Jane d 30 Apl 1880 and Elsbeth, nothing known. I have nothing on the father except his initials may be H.M.?  and he may have died in 1877. The H could be for Henry(family name)
*May have been James' son,
Repeated given names of the family males have been:- Thomas(3), John(2), Henry(2), Alfred(2), William(2), Charles(2),James(4),Fredrick. Females:-Catherine(2), Forsythe(2), Mary, Jane ,Helen.
As you see things are a little sparse. Is it possible to see if James' father is given on James marriage certificate/register 18th Nov 1830 St Andrews, Fife? Thankyou again for Monica's and your help, regards Ian.

Hello Joe, The information I have came from family letters not any census. Yes, he was married and I have indications that the wifes name may have been Catherine Forsyth, but no info on when or where they were married. I have no information on where or when he was born although it may well be at Kenly Green, where he was the estate gardener. he apparently died intestate. The parish that Kenly Green was in, and still is, is St Andrews, Fife. Both his sons were christened in this parish.

Could anyone please give me a jump start by looking in the 1861 then 1851 and 1871 for James  Davidson and family. He was living in Kenly Green, nr Kingsbarns, Fife. He was a gardener and had at least two sons, John,b jul 1836, and Thomas, b1832. I think he also had some daughters. James died in march 1880 age unknown. Thankyou, regards Ian Davidson
