I will have a hunt through the 1881 census for the three Matthews mentioned, and see if one doesn't appear and has no apparent death entry in the bmd records.

If only people lived to be 156 I could ask his mother   ;D

I'm not sure this is in the right place so please feel free to move the thread if needed!

My GG Grandfather, Matthew Lawley, was born illigitimate c1877 in Stourbridge. His mother was Mary Lawley. I cannot find a birth certificate so I assume he wasn't registered? His marriage certificate says 'base born' where the father's name should be so another dead end!

Are there records that would give any clues as to the father or will I have to give up?!

Hi,

I would be very grateful if someone could look up newspaper reports (I think they will  be in the County Express?) and send me copies of the following please. I would, of course, reimburse any costs if needed!

Matthew LAWLEY aged 62
died 17 June 1939, Corbett Hospital, Amblecote
Inquest held 20 June 1939. Accidental death: fell off lorry

Alice BABBS aged 44
died 22 June 1923, 1 Vicarage Road, Wollaston.
Inquest held 25 June 1923. Suicide: strangulation.
