Occupation Interests / Re: Gold mine captain in South Africa

Thanks for your reply
I've managed to find out very little about Florence in her adult life apart from her adult baptism and marriage records and death record for husband James. I wondered if she had children at all but found no trace of any. Did Alice your grandmother have other children besides your mum and Audrey Elsa? I've got lots of information regarding their early lives in Wales and go back many generations of the Phillips family.

Hi Derek
I've pm'd you but I'm not sure you got it.
Maisie and my mother were first cousins. My grandmother Elizabeth Jenkins nee Phillips was a sister to your grandmother Alice. Sian's grandmother Elsie was also their sister so we three are second cousins. My grandparents went out to Africa when Alice and Florence did but returned to Wales for good in 1921. Three of my mother's siblings were born in Benoni during that time but my grandmother came back for my mother's birth in 1913 returning to Benoni when Mam was 6 weeks old.
I've been in touch with Jeremy recently as he's doing the family's history research and if I can help you with any info let me know. I've been researching it for about 17 years and have a tree on Ancestry.co.I'm
Best Wishes

My sister and cousins have been trying to find out about a connection our family may have to Jimmy Wilde. They all remember our grandmother Mary Ann Davies talking about Jimmy and showing them photos of him but can't see how he's related to us. I know Jimmy's  wife was Elizabeth Ann Davies, her father I believe was David Davies and both my grandmother and grandfather were Davies's from Fochriw and Pontlottyn but before that from Merthyr, who later settled near Pontypool. I've been researching my family tree for 13 years but failed to find where Jimmy connects to it and would love to find some answers so would welcome any help.

Glamorganshire / Re: Dowlais poorhouse

Thank you Bernard, the family had a home in Bethania Street at that time but my gg grandfather's place of death was given as High Street, so maybe it was the home of a relative.

Thank you Mabel, I'd found this information but 1860 was a bit late for what I was looking at. I have a relative who died in High Street, Merthyr in 1854 but lived at Bethania Street so I wondered if there was a poorhouse or hospital in High Street that he might have died in.

Glamorganshire / Re: Do the Glanrhyd hospital patient records still exist?
« on: Monday 26 October 15 17:48 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, my great great grandfather died in Glanrhyd hospital in 1912 and my second cousin accessed his medical records and recently sent them to me. We learnt a lot from them not just medical but his brother's names and where they lived which was a great help with our research. They also contained photos of him the only ones we'd ever seen, so priceless to us.
