I have a friend whom I can send to Harrow library (  ;D ) at any time to look up old maps if you wish?

Maybe they can find Glengarry Farm,no road exists today with any such name.
Nor can I remember one from the 60's onwards.

everyone who took the time and trouble to help in my last post, i really do appreciate all the help and info , especially as i understand that a request for info on a "Smith" is hard work.
Although we didnt quite get any details on charles rhoades senior after 1909-10, ( i guess thats the way of geneology) we did get some good stuff, which is genuinley greatly appreciated.
  once again thanks all

kind regards

I've had no luck finding Charles on the 1922 Hamilton directory.

would it be possible to see if archie ,came on the same ship as charles junior, i keep having this image of archie as the baby of the family, but by july 1920, he would have been a 21 yr old adult

I thought a second set of eyes might help with the form 30 for Charles. It looks like 1911 to me for his first arrival. I think the employers may have been Burke Bros. I did a quick Google search and there was a business called Burke Bros. on Mulberry St in Hamilton in the ice cream business:

jacquie,
thanks for that, 1911 would fit perfectly, as we last have him in uk on 1911 census, i did wonder about a  1917 arrival ,as on his recruitment card in april 1918, it says he has previously served a year in the haldimand regt, and also would the brits allow able bodied men to emigrate at that time in the depths of ww1, even though he was technically a new zealander ?
many thanks once again

Hi Carol

SORRY, what I wasn't very clear about was GlenGaryFarm may have been in Hendon/Willesden and maybe not (Hendon)/Wealdstone.
I hadn't even thought about the actual birth reg Wealdstone to Hendon bit.

Sheepcote Road is def not Wealdstone(or Willesden) so they may have moved to SheepcoteRd from Wealdstone(Willesden). If they came back from NZ say early 1890s and his business (auctioneers/furniture dealers) folded in 1901 then the farm (business?) didn't last long.

Smudger may know.

The name Glengary Farm intrigues me, I now need to find it as being from that area (Willesden-Wealdstone-'Arrer), with my family around there since 1890's and my god-father's family are/were big dairy farmers in the area ...

not being from middx i must admit i was confused about the geography , at first i thouht wealdstone where the farm was , and willesden whr charles junior was last heard of in 1911 census, could have been the same place, as to my scots ear they sounded similar.
also when the financial trouble began for charles rhodes snr  1908-1910 , the address given in london gazzette was glengary farm, wealdstone , station road harrow. i wondered if wealdstone and harrow were or are 2 seperate places,(poss running into each other).up to march 1910 charles sen is listed in documents as charles rhoades, but after that i have him on daughter margrt marriage cert as simply charles, after that i cant find him anywhere

son percy joins the R Navy in feb 1910, daughter margaret marries in 18 oct 1910, and charles junior is in willesden in 1911 census. but i cannot find charles senior , edith , or archibald anywhere.
he may have been living in Perivale house, wembley,in 1909,but i am unsure.

Do you have Margaret's marriage cert- does it say dad is still alive, what job does it give for him and what address did she marry from?

Who were the witnesses, and have you found them around Harlesden in 1911 too  ;D

Carol

carol,
unfortunatly i do not have the marr cert, she married walter fred may on 18 oct 1910, at st john evangelist,
wembley, borouh of brent, bride father is charles smith(rhoades has been dropped, poss due to bankrupt proceedings)father job is estate agent,
i believe in 1911 they were living at 65 hendham rd upper tooting

Hi Smudger

Is this your man?

http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/27291/pages/1603

hi tsu
well done , it  is indeed our man , in the london gazzette btween 3 march 1908, until 4th march 1910,
there are 4 entries relating to finance probs, poss bankruptcy, and this is the last i can find him anywhere apart from his name on daughter margaret marriage cert on 18th oct 1910, but it dooes not say if he is deceased, it is a mystery as to where he and his 2nd wife edith, and young archie are

once again thanks for your time, good job
