Christine,

That would be very kind if you were able to check. Thank you very much.

I am not aware of the Woodhorn archives. The last time I visted Northumberland records they were housed in Morpeth.

Hi Rosie,

Yes I think a trip up to Newcastle/Alnwick to check out the records may be in order. I have never used Burial records much, to date, having used primarily Parish records and Cencus returns to build up my family tree.

Time to find out more about William of Alnwick

Thanks again

Thats a good point Christine, It is certainly something to consider. I certainly haven't been able to dismiss the option so it maybe the answer.

Would be good if it was as its been a stumbling block for a while

Hi Rosie,

I had found that reference previously and had that as the best option until recent developments. After a Google search I found the following on RootsWeb

GAIR, William b: Abt 1704 in Longhoughton, Northumberland d: 2 Sep 1788 in Howick, Northumberland

The death date fits previous information I had and, until yesterday I didn't have a location for his birth. At present I am unable to fine anything further about the potential Longhoughton link.

I do know that William Gair you have suggested must be a relation but where/how the two are linked I am not sure.

I have researched back to William Gair (b 1704, Longhoughton, Northumberland) who married Margaret Litherton (b 19 Mar 1710, Bamburgh, Northumberland) in 26 May 1729.

I am struggling to locate any evidence of Williams birth record, parents or other family relationship. Any advice on how to proceed would be welcome.
