Sorry, We have seen this yes also another one in Scotland. We haven't dismissed any yet just need that bit of information which might guarantee the info. My partner has e-mailed an aunt tonight hoping she might be able to help.

Hi all, I started helping my partner yesterday trying to trace her family tree. We did reasonably well using FindMyPast, however we can not find a birth or census return for her great grandma named above.

Mabel lived in the Mortehoe/Woolacombe area all her life my partner believes, she was born in 1901 and died in 2001 a week short of her 100th birthday.
She married in 1922 to Francis Ellis, and had a son in 1923 called Anthony Ralph Ellis who was my partners grandad. Although we know her birth year as 1901 and her maiden name of Millar we can't find a birth record anywhere and subsequently can't find her in the 1911 census. 
We are wondering if she was adopted or taken in by another family who knows, but any pointers would be much appreciated......Thank You...Lee

First time i've been on this forum maggieB, I live in blackburn and Francis Young is my grandad x3. Ellin had a younger sister called Elizabeth who married Ambrose Preston from Hellifield, they in turn had a daughter called Elizabeth who married James Gosling in Hoddlesden Darwen, James and Elizabeth had a son called James in 1898 who was my grandad. My dad remembers visiting settle and giggleswick as a young lad to visit the Preston family who I believe are still there.
