Hampshire & IOW Lookup Requests / Re: John Henry Todd-Andover?

I believe this may be John Henry Todd who was in the Andover Loyal Volunteers - a local defence force established during the Napoleonic Wars. A history of the unit (1803-1812) can be obtained through the Andover Local History Society.

John Henry Todd was initially ensign in 1803, being promoted to Lieutenant in 1804, and became Adjutant in August 1804.

Thanks for the information re John Henry Todd. Since my original posting I have managed to build a tree relating John Henry Todd and his siblings. I believe he was the eldest son of John Todd [living in Andover in 1768, formerly of St. Bees, Cumberland] and had two brothers: William Richard Todd, residing in Bristol in 1810 [born abt 1770], and Anthony Todd [born abt 1781] who married 1802, Sarah Quinton, daughter of William Quinton and Jane Godden of Andover. Anthony was in the legal profession, possibly coroner in 1825. John Henry Todd, [born abt 1765] at his marriage to Ann Sutton [dau of Charles Sutton, Inn Holder and bondsman] in 1817, [noted as a widow on his marriage record], appears to have had a daughter Ellen who married Thomas Lamb in 1840.
I have managed [speculation] to track down the children of Anthony Todd and Sarah Quinton who settled in Winchester [St. Thomas]: John Henry [ch.1803] -m- Mary Ellen Moore [ch. 1811] in 1832 by licence, daughter of John Moore [merchant, latterly of Newport, isle of Wight]] and Mary Eaton, daughter of Edward Fawley Eaton and Mary White; Jane [ch.1805]; Charlotte [ch. 1806], and William Richard [ch.1810 and entered St. Catherine's, Cambridge as a 'ten year man' in 1845].
John Henry Todd [ch.1803] solicitor and Coroner in Winchester in 1845, and his wife Mary Ellen Moore had: Charlotte Ellen [ch. 1834] -m- James William Browne in 1854; Henry Moore [ch. 1835]; Mary Jane [abt 1837] -m- William Henry Langworthy in 1863; William Harford [ch. 1839]; Walter John [ch. 1841]; Charles Edward [ch. 1843]; Katherine Iles [abt 1847] -m- John Woodcock in 1867; John Moore [ch. 1848] -m- Emily Aylward in 1867; Robert Edward [ch. 1850]; Arthur Moore [ch. 1853].
An Anthony Todd [?*] widow, married by licence at St. Maurice in 1821, Susan Faithfull of St. Peter Colebrook. An Anthony Todd was Clerk to the Pavement Commissioners [Winchester] in 1825.
I still haven't been able to make a firm connection between JOHN TODD [in Andover in 1768] and the Todd family in Cumberland, but believe he was the eldest surviving son of Henry Todd of St. Bees, solicitor, thereby entitling him [and subsequently his three sons] to release the sale of land in Egremont, Cumberland.
Is anyone out there researching the same branch of the TODD family?

 :)
I just came across your posting [and joined up in order to reply!] regarding John Henry Todd. I think he may be one of my strays from St. Bees, [Whitehaven] Cumberland, but I'm still struggling to join up the dots. His father [?John Todd] was most likely in the legal profession and was certainly in Andover in 1768 when he made a contract to sell land known as Wood End, in Egremont [Cumberland]. I believe JHT [1765] had a brother, Anthony who married a Sarah Quinton [b. 15/3/1775 Andover] on 6 May 1802, their children being: John Henry Todd, ch. 15 Dec 1803 St. Thomas, Winchester [solicitor -m- Mary Ellen Moore [b.10/4/1811 Newport, Isle of Wight] and had issue], a sister, Charlotte Todd [ch. 8 Aug 1806 St. Thomas, Winchester], and William Richard Todd [ch. 3 Jan 1810, St. Thomas, Winchester].
The property, Wood End in Egremont, rears its head again in association with John Todd in October 1800, followed by, in 1810, references including the names John Henry Todd, Andover, Southampton; William Richard Todd, Bristol, and Anthony Todd, Winchester.
The earliest Wood End, Egremont transactions are conducted by Henry Todd, first in August 1713, and again in April 1722.  The Egremont information courtesy of The National Archives.
I realise your posting was some time ago [!], but hope your curiosity has survived the duration. I'd be delighted to hear if you have any further information about this Todd line.
