Hi CHB,

I'm so pleased to make contact with a possible family member.  Once you have made at least three postings on this site you will gain access to the Personal Messaging System that would allow us to communicate with each other on a private basis and exchange personal contact details without them being visible to the whole world.

Emma was my father's big sister and I was born in Sydney but now live in Melbourne.

If you acknowledge this message you will be two thirds of the way towards being able to use the Personal messaging system.

Do you know Shirley B ?  If so do not quote her full name in a reply as living people should not be identified online.

Regards,

John

Cando many thanks.

Have tried enquiries and got great results however saving the results as PDF files produces files with very small characters necessitating turning-up the magnification on my pdf readers. I used three different freeware PDF creators (actually pdf printer drivers) to create the pdf files so I assume it is a VIC BDM Registry issue.

Regards,
Johnno

Sparrett,

Many thanks for your hint of using the Ctrl key with the mouse wheel to change the screen resolution.  It works for me on the NSW poorly designed new website.

Hi Freckle,

I've been to Keilor Cemetery today and taken photos. I'm rather new to this system and I imagine I should send them via a personal message. Please advise how best to get them to you.
Some extra detail for you - the actual site locations within the areas you quoted are as follow:
Arthur & Polixeni  :  372C
Christos  :  250RL
Tom  :  1114C
I have site overall photos plus close-ups of the text, for a minimum of six photos. The originals are about 3 MB each and I have reduced them to about 200 KB each (1024x768) to reduce initial transmission sizes. If the smaller versions are not suitable I could send the larger higher res versions; just need to know how.

Regards,
John

Wiggy, many thanks for the heads up. Looking at the DPS website it is a no cost self-help show so I might play safe and take a coffee sachet too. If Leonie gets there too, it could end up as a mini-'Mini Melbourne Meet'!

Hi All,

Many thanks to all those who attended yesterday, particularly to Wiggy who organised the Meet.  I thoroughly enjoyed meeting new friends and over a great meal, in nice surroundings too.

The only downer of the day for me is how do I explain the teddies to my big kids, particularly Little Ted who has a very large purse for a little teddy and has the power to command his own railway platform!

For those interested in Love, there is no Love in my family tree (please be careful how you read that)

Wiggy, I might catch-up with you at a DPS meeting one day as it is not far from me via the Ring Road.

Yvonne, I have discovered I have something in common with your man - I was watching the car racing too on 7Mate this afternoon,

To add to my story, I moved from Sydney to Melbourne in 1974.  Also I have updated my profile with a real photo that used to appear in the Sydney daily press on a regular basis.

Definitely looking forward to next year's meet.

Regards to all

John   :)

Hi Gillian and Willi,

I really appreciate the information and efforts.  Even though there is no definite family information I feel I have progressed in my search as I now know a little more (like University existences & LDS records may exist).

Many thanks

Cando,

Again many thanks for your guidance and hints. You are a real gem.  Now I have an approach that I can follow, as time permits, but I would still like to find someone with intimate knowledge of the family to give me some confidence in what I have todate and hope to find in the future.

Regards, John

Hi Dundee & Cando,

Many thanks for your information. It is much appreciated.

Cando, your information from the Australian Electoral Rolls appears to be bang-on, as I can remember visiting the Trade Street home when I was a kid no older than about 5 years old.

How are the Australian Electoral Roll records accessed;  are they available online?

Re my quest for details on this Hilton family I have the basic details of marriage etc as available from NSW BDM, but have not been able to contact anyone from, or knows of, the ten children or their families who might be able to provide details and confirm that what I have is correct.

I don't know if all ten names I have are correct or if any are still living, thus I cannot name names.

I don't want to put unconfirmed info into a formal computerised family tree record, but, Cando, it looks like what you have provided gives me confirmation of the names of at least five of the children.

I am relatively new to family tree research and just joined RootsChat this last week.  Going by the quantity and quality of postings I have a lot to learn in research processes.   Again, many thanks for your assistance.

Regards,  John.
