Hi Dottie

Thanks for offering to check out the local newspapers, that would be very much appreciated.   From another genealogy source I was sent a picture of her Headstone, and its definitely in Peathill.

Bessie Doran died  21 September 1971 in Aberdeen ( Hospital ??) as she had cancer I believe.   Think the wider family would like to know what if any notice was in the paper.  Also her sister, my Grannie, Jane / Jeannie May died in Fraserburgh Hospital 15 June 1971, not sure if you have access to those papers also.

Your help is much appreciated, as its very hard doing this type of thing  from New Zealand.   Maureen

Trying to find out if my Great Aunt was buried in Peathill like I thought she was.

I live in New Zealand, can only do so much searching on line.

The person I am looking for was Elizabeth (Bessie/Betsy) Doran m/s Ritchie, born 16 January 1895, in Rosehearty and died I think 21 Septmber 1971.   She had seperated / divorced from her husband in the 1960's I believe, quite unusual back in those days.

I dont think she is buried with her parents, in Peathill, they were Joseph Ritchie 1860-1930 & Mary Ann Mitchell 1860-1904.

Any help, much appreciated.

Hi

Got Andrew & Alice's marriage cert, appears they married the Magistrates Office in Queenstown, he was a Miner ( in Gold fields), she a servant, there was a C F Small, Carpenter of Beach St, one witness the other a M Canning of queenstown, wife of Edward Canning of same place.  Just wondering if she was employed by the Cannings.

Charles birth cert gives a little more info about her,  she was definitely an Alice Howarth, aged 23  born in East Riding in Yorkshire,  which makes her date of birth 1857.

I dont think she wants to be found !!   Proving to very elusive

Hi

A little more information about my "mystery lady, Alice".

Got the birth certificate of their son, my hubby's grandfather,  Charles was born 10 October 1881 in Lumsden,  Alice was then 23, her maiden name was Howarth, and she was born in East Riding, Yorkshire, England.

That means she was born abt 1856-1857, anyone able to see if they can find her for me.

Thanks

Maureen in New Zealand.

Andrew & Alice's marriage cert  of 6 July 1874 in Queenstown New Zealand, shows his occupation as a Miner ( during the Gold Rush in the area),  Alice was 18 yrs old and a spinster.   At this stage unable to read the witness signatures.

Hi

Haven't been online for about a month, due to a family bereavement.

Still unable to track down my "mystery lady Alice".   All avenues seem not to tie in.   Her death cert states she died 28 March 1939, aged 82 yrs,  been in New Zealand for 70 years,  which means she came down under when she was abt 12 yrs old, has to be with her parent / parents which were James Howarth & Elizabeth Howarth ( no maiden name mentioned).   Was married at the young age of 17 to Andrew Small in Queenstown, New Zealand.

Have sent away to their marriage cert, to see who were the witnesses, and the birth cert of their son Charles Small, b 1881 ( he was my hubbys  grandfather.), to see what other information I can find.

Kind regards

Maureen

Hi Carole

Always thought Alice was going to be a tricky person to track down,  most of my side are from Scotland, she is the 1st from England !!

Havent get much experience at track down passenger lists, not sure where to look.

Hi Carole

Just started looking into her, the only info I have is her death in New Zealand, and what I have already written.

Appears she must have come to NZ when she was about 10 years old, if the figures on her death cert are correct, she was married July 1874 in New Zealand.   I havent got this certificate at this stage,  as I believe all marriage certs here before 1881 wont give me any more information than I already have.
