Perthshire / Re: William Small/Margaret Anderson
« on: Thursday 15 April 10 22:41 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Sorry got part of my message wrong - wrote it late last night.

It was David Small bc 1800  that married Margaret Niven bc 1804, married  abt. 1825.   Was given this information by someone else, all I have is that they were born in Perthshire.

Their son Andrew was born 23 July 1847, in Bridge of Earn, Dunbarney in Perthshire.   From IGI it appears their is 10 children, the 1st a James was born 15 Dec 1825 in Dunbarney.  Followed by David, William, Jane, John, Euphemia, Thomas, Alexander, Andrew &  Peter.

Waiting for copies of Andrew & Alice's death certs to arrive to confirm they are his parents.

Was surfing the net and came across RootsChat which I had forgotten about, after having a major computer crash and loosing all my "favourites / bookmarked sites"

Kind regards, Maureen

Hi

Not sure if my "Smalls" are connected to your William, but

I am looking for a David  Small  bc 1800 married a Margaret Niven bc 1804

They had a son Andrew born 1847,who emigrated to New Zealand, in 1870, he married Alice Howarth in 1874 and had 14 children, am particularly interested in their son, Charles who was born in 1881, in Lumsden, N.Z.

Kind regards

Aberdeenshire Lookup Requests / Re: Jane Robertson & Ann Smith
« on: Saturday 25 April 09 09:08 BST (UK)  »
Hi Eva

Thanks for looking for me, but dont think that either of your postings are connected to my Jane & Ann, the ages tie in but the places of birth are wrong.

Jane was definitely born in Peterhead,  while her mother, Ann was from Portessie in Banffshire.

It seems strange that Jane's younger brothers, John b 1853 & William b 1854 are with their grandparents,  John Smith & Mary Sutherland in Portessie in the 1861 census, but not Jane and her mother.

Jane's younger  sister, Mary born 1850, was a servant in Portessie, 1861.

So far I just havent been able to find Jane & her mother.

Aberdeenshire Lookup Requests / Jane Robertson & Ann Smith
« on: Friday 24 April 09 22:46 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Can any one help me find my gt grandmother Jane Robertson, born 1849 in Peterhead, in the 1861 census.

Just recently discovered that her father, James Robertson b 1818 in Peterhead, was admitted to the Royal Lunatic Asylum in 1855, dying their 7 May 1871.

Cant seem to find Jane or her mother Ann Smith anywhere in 1861.   Ann Smith was born 24 September 1817 in Portessie and died there 18 September 1904.

Can anyone check to see if Ann applied for Poor Relief after her husband was admitted to the Asylum.

Jane married John Lawrence May in 1867, and appears to have had a good life with him, compared to what must have been a very hard time growing up with a father with mental problems and her  family splitting up.

Thanks

Maureen, ( in New Zealand )

Hi Windsor87

Ann's parents were John Smith b 1794, died bet. 1861-1866, in Portessie, and Mary Sutherland b 1797, and died 13 June 1866 in Portessie.  They had 9 children, "my Ann" being the eldest.     In the 1861 census  John & Mary were at 74 Portessie, aged 68 & 63.

Has anyone got connections to Robert & Jane "my brickwalls" from around Fraserburgh.

Robert and Jane were both born around 1800-1805, they are my gt gt gt grandparents. Robert died after 1881, havent been able to find his death cert. He was in a widower, in Old Deer aged 79 yrs in the 1881 census. Jane appears to have died before 1851, as Robert is by himself in all the census from 1841-1881.

They had 1 daughter that I have been able to find, Rachel, born 1824 she married George Alexander Buchan in 1847. Have plenty of info about them, but her parents are a real mystery to me.

Can anyone help out.

Kind regards

Maureen, down under in New Zealand.
