Graham, just realised, though the time frame looks too late for her to be Miss Meade.....Rodney's grandfather was writing about his Grandmother's relative, so might not have thought about whether she was married at the time or not....but it looks like the photo was taken in 1867 or thereabouts, though the article says the Queen and the Royal family....the photo says the Queen and H.R.H the Prince of Wales, so that might further qualify it....Narelle

Graham,   don't mean to be a stalker but if that is Mary Hannah Garnsey Meade in that photo you have posted, then I think I have the younger version, they have the same hairline and nose.......do you agree???
Really going this time.....you've left me with some homework for my trees!  Night, Narelle

Graham, wow I hadn't remembered the photo had the details on the front, so thought you were very clever with that link.....so it seems to say mid 1880's,

the Dr Robert Meade one is from..
the London Stereoscopic and Photographic Company
                 110 Regent Street,
under the patronage of her Majesty

                and at Cheapside

(feel like I'm in Pride and Prejudice)
at the bottom it seems to say
sole photographers to the international exhibition 1862...
so that puts Robert's photograph in the late 1800's

Do you think that baptism is our Harriet Melhuish??

Really going to sleep now, Narelle

Hi I thought I had killed the whole system, it told me, it needed to stop and I had to go away for an hour.....I'm back but it is after 2am......so I have now added the back of Miss Meade....who looks an awful lot like the woman in the first photo...maybe I am being hopeful.....the second photo is of Johanna Apperley (Meade) Gill, who came across on the Bark Calendonia with her husband John Gill (architect) and brother Robert Garnsey Meade and sister, Susan Meade, who wrote the wonderful diary which my friend and I recently visited in the National Library, Canberra (Australia).  Miss Meade went on to be the Nanny to Governor La Trobe and his wife Sophie's children, a very desirable nanny as she spoke fluent French.  Interesting relationship developed between her and Sophie.
I also have a, not particularly good, rendition of Robert Garnsey Meade, from a booklet!
I love your two photos, I can't reciprocate in such glamour as I only have a few DeBoos weddings.
As I told Baby Boomer, we have found out a lot of information about Susan Meade as her husband was compelled to paint so much of the scenery of early Melbourne (only the 1840's not early by your standards), he is also exhibited in the State Library of Victoria, where they hold over 180 of his paintings and sketches, I have a few more photos but am not sure how much of the Austraalian branches of the family actually interest you, good night, Narelle

okay, I've worked it out, so the first photo is Dr Robert Meade, I originally assumed his middle name was Garnsey, so it is incorrecty labelled.

The second photo is the Miss Meade one.....I will send the backs next...I'm on a roll now, Nrel

Graham, I am having a blonde moment....I cannot find the forum, we are communicating on, through my iPad, where I can easily find the send photos button......on my main computer, which holds the photos, you have not turned up as a person who has contacted me, it says Baby Boomer is my only contact, so I will persist but it may need you to contact me however it works so I can just respond....sorry, I am way too new at this!!
If I can work out how to send photos I will do it,  Narelle

Golly Graham, I missed this note....now I have to concentrate, I found the mention of Harriet in Ancestry.....Somerset Extracted Parish records.....24 Apr  1799 24 Jan 1799 Harriet d, of Wm & Joanna Melhuish
Baptisms 1770-1812
Collection Bruton- Parish Registers, 1681-1812

Now Baptisms can be at any age can't they?

Now Richard Crudge Meade - married Sarah Matthews Drew.
I picked up his will a couple of weeks ago, he only had one living daughter but I found birth records for a few more children....Susan Henrietta Meade 1856-1859, Frederick William Meade 1858-1859 then the surviving child, Constance Matthews Drew Meade born 1861, found her living in England with Mary Theodore Brown, (boarder) in 1911,  at age 50, she passed away in 1935 3 rd June , she left her £1121 .11 s to Mary!

Now you have thrilled me with dates for Robert Axford,....I have him on the tree but have found no record of him anywhere, so dates are thrilling, and him having died early makes more reason to have a second Robert.
Charles too...I had no dates for him either, where did you find those dates?

I knew Elizabeth was Joanna's second cousin...(Thomas and Elizabeth Hannah Hurley Meade).but again have a birth date  1803 but no marriage date or death.

Big mystery...I have no Frances Hurley White Meade....okay found his birth , saved it to my shoebox and it was already there, probably the Hurley triggered my interest! Doesn't mention parents.
Notice he died at 3!

See I think Mary Hannah  Garnsey Meade is the only possible one too, but my friend Kate who is a descendent of Susan Meade ( daughter of Henry White Meade) wanted it to be her!

I will change computers and can send the photos to you, regards Narelle

Hi, sorry I wrote Meade instead of Melhuish, it was the Melhuish family that I was trying to find.  Found that bit of info and wondered if it could fit with Harriet Melhuish, first wife of Robert Meade.
Mary Harriet Meade is her granddaughter, daughter of Elizabeth Penelope Meade and her cousin Robert Garnsey Meade, who settled in Euroa, Australia. She is my husband's great grandmother.
I have two photographs....one says, Dr Robert Meade, grandmother Meade's, (Elizabeth Penelope) brother.
The other says, Miss Meade sister of Uncle Robert.
The writing appears to be that of my husband's grandfather.
Uncle Robert could be his Grandmother's half brother Robert, his sister should be Grandmothers sister too shouldn't she??
You seem such a guru, thought you might have some hint! Thanks for the reply, sorry for the confusion, Narelle

Graham, I am married to one of Harriet Melhuish's descendants....I have a few issues, I have finally found a baptism for a Harriet Meade, 24th April 1799, Somerset, with parents William and Joanna.....have you found potential parents?
Also, do you have any photos of Mary Hannah Garnsey Meade, I have a photo I am trying to identify? Regards, Narelle DeBoos
