Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Re: Kate Hughes born c1883 Rotherham
« on: Wednesday 28 August 13 22:37 BST (UK)  »
Pels,
unfortunately I do not currently have any more information on Nellie - information that I have is based on recent conversation with elderly relative who did not provide any more details on Nellie. Will add it to my list of questions for follow up conversation.
I have seen the 1891 Census that you refer to that shows a Charles and Harriet Hughes having four children (Catherine, Charles, Bernard and Ellen) living with them at 45 Wellgate Rotherham. Location seemed a possible and I did wonder whether this Catherine was the Kate I am looking for.
I do not have access to 1901 Census and have not seen the one with children Charles, Nellie, Mary and Annie that you mention. Would seem this family is a possible but relative that I spoke with only mentioned Kate, Nellie and Mary - no mention of other sisters Annie, Ellen or brothers Charles and Bernard.....more questions for my list methinks.

many thanks for help

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Kate Hughes born c1883 Rotherham
« on: Wednesday 28 August 13 21:35 BST (UK)  »
Would appreciate help in finding information about Kate Hughes family, including parents.
In 1911 Census Kate was living with her husband William Edward Holmes at 295 Broom Road, Wellgate, Rotherham and their children Elsie, James, Harry and Evlyn.
Kate and William were married in Rotherham in 1904. Kate was born c1883 Rotherham.
I also know that Kate had two sisters, Nellie and Mary. Nellie had two daughters Clara (claire) and Connie.

In 1901 Census there was a Kate Hughes, aged 18 born Rotherham, who was a servant in Bower household at 277 Wellgate - this may, or may not, be the Kate that I am seeking information on.

Many thanks in advance.

It does indeed make sense.....and a Caroline Savage death was registered in 1864 (possibly George's wife in 1861 Census), the year before Harriet and George married...

thanks again

Sillgen,
unfortunately no re certificates at present. Currently taking advantage of free Census access on Ancestry UK over Bank holiday to try and gather relevant information. Regarding 1861 Census i have been unable to find Harriet (should be aged c30) or a one year old Henry John. Your earlier post referred to 1861 and 1841 Census presumably for Harriett? Any further info you have re these Census records would be appreciated.

The lack of father being mentioned on Lesley's earlier post re Henry's baptism did seem strange to me but I wondered whether it could be because she was a widow....

thanks for assisting...the search continues...

Lesley,
many thanks for the information which does indeed seem to be the Henry John Freeman that I was looking given details on 1911 Census which includes:
Henry John Freeman, head of household, aged 50 and Hariett Savage, a widow, mother of head of household aged 80.
Not 100% sure but  I believe that Henry John Freeman's father was Henry Freeman who married Hariett Barker in 1858 (Battle district). A Henry Freeman died in 1859 (registered Dec qtr in Battle), presumably just before his son Henry John was born in 1860 (cannot find him on FreeBMD though).

Hopefully above is correct and I can start tracing Henry and Hariett back.....to thier parents...

thanks again

Sussex Lookup Requests / Henry John freeman born c1861 Bexhill, Sussex

I have been trying, unsuccessfully, to discover information about Henry John Freeman, a labourer, and his parents, grandparents.
In 1901/1911 he was living with his second wife, Annie (Gower - also previously married) and their children, step children in Belle Hill, Bexhill, Sussex. They married in 1900.
I believe that Henry was previously married to Julia (who died in 1899) and that they were living in Belle Hill, Bexhill at the time of the 1891 census.
I seem to have hit a brick wall in finding earlier information on Henry, his parents and, ideally, grandparents. Any leads, information would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance

Sheila/Derek,
wow....Just catching up on things and amazed at amount of info that you have come up with.
Seems that Derek still has concerns re John's baptism and, like me, surprised that Williams parents shown as William and Mary rather than John and Mary.

I am not really familiar with IGI records - just wondered how reliable they are/how you can form view on their reliablilty etc.

thanks again.

Dizzifish,
many thanks for latest update which seems promising and consistent with other online information that I have come across:
John Maskrey born Shirley, Derbyshire 1807 to William Maskrey (1779-1852) and Mary Slater (1785-?). John married Mary Adams (1811-1881) and had 8 children -
William Maskrey (1835-?), Jane Maskrey (1838-?), John Maskrey (1841-1841), Louisa Maskrey (1845-1865), George Maskrey (1848-?), Berrisford James Maskrey (1850-1852), Thomas Maskrey (1852-?), Joseph Maskrey (1856-1936).

This information seems to be consistent with 1851 Census (your post 76) which relates to family i am interested in. The main inconsistency is there being a John Maskrey aged 8 listed in 1851 census with the family extract above showing a John Maskrey being born and dying in 1841. Maybe they had subsequent child called John and a total of 9 children, or incorrect John shown......

The net seems to be closing in....

thanks for your continuing assistance
