Hi I am looking for information on Margaret Copp she was married to James James a Lieutenant on the prison ship Buckingham, her uncle's last name was Symons he was a Purser on the Buckingham as well that's how James James met Margaret. I have attached a piece from from a diary of her step son Henry James who was a major in the Royal Marines.
My Father was married to a Miss Margaret Copp daughter of a farmer near Exeter, and was at that time on a visit with an old Aunt Mrs. Moffatt, (who brought her up after the death of her parents) to Mr. and Mrs. Symons, then living at the house now (1861), occupied by the Chief Medical Officer of Fort Pitt, situated on the New Road opposite Five Bell Lane, and at that time known by the name of Old Carlo’s house. Soon after the marriage the Bride was brought to be introduced to me at the School, and I thought her the prettiest woman I had ever seen but with a fiery eye and a sharp nose. My Father was then in Command of the Buckingham Prison Ship, lying at Gillingham, and of which ship, Mr. Symons was the Purser, which led to the acquaintance of his niece the Bride.
I have found a birth record for Margaret with her birth was 1774 and parents were John Copp & Mary not sure if this is correct.
