The Common Room / Re: Find my Past help

Hi AllanUK

Many thanks for taking the time to look.  I've traced other relatives to Canada Australia and USA but not Ireland so far.  I looked at information about the regiment yesterday and found a picture of the badge and colours but nothing about recruiting.  I'll keep trying.

Thank you for your help.

Hi Hanes Teulu and Allan UK

Many thanks for your information I will certainly be looking into your suggestions.  Any ideas whether Ananias would have been able to enlist into that particular regiment from England or if he needed to be in Ireland.

Many thanks

Hi cuffie 81

Many thanks for the information 'what naughty boys'.  No I hadn't seen any of those notices looks like I'll have to renew my subscription to British Newspapers I let it go just before Christmas as I hadn't used it for sometime.  I'm sure Jacob Gardner is also one of mine.  Further work needed.

Again many thanks

The Common Room / Find my Past help

Hi everyone hope you all had a Christmas of sorts  :-\

Can anyone with access to Find my Past help please.  I'm going over old findings and adding/changing records collected.

Sometime ago I found a record for Ananias Phelps b. 1852 Bisley Gloucestershire and a death record via FindMyPast which reads d. 19th March 1875 age 23 yrs -Corporal 1/18th Regt
Date buried 20th March 1875
Cause - Typhoid Fever
Buried by Capt Batts 1/18th Reg - Bareilly Benjal India

I don't have access to FindMyPast and can't find anything on Ancestry.  I'd like to know what regiment he was in and when he joined etc so I can do further research.

Many thanks - have a good New Year.

Hi Stanmapstone

Yes I've spent the afternoon researching this.  I've also found out that for the purposes of family history it can also give some insight into the financial situation and status of the family as sometimes it can be recorded that " the person was buried naked as they were too poor for a shroud"  Very interesting many thanks for your reply.
