Hi Ambly,

Thanks for your help! I wonder why the births would be registered under the mother's maiden name? However, I do think they are the correct people/dates.

I will check out Scotsland People to try moving forward (backwards really) on finding James McIntosh's family of origin.

Cheers,
Sandie   :)

Hi,

I am doing research on my mother in-law's family and I am having trouble.

Her father's name is John McIntosh b.1890 in Partick, Renfrewshire & died in Canada.  He married in Canada.
His father was James McIntosh b.1847 in Nairn, d. 1915
His mother was Margaret Ross b. 1856 in Logie Easter, Rasshire, d.??

I have not been able to find a record of John McIntosh's birth. Also, I have not been able to find a record of James and Margaret's marriage and I cannot find any record of their individual families.

Thanks for any help,
Sandie

Graveyards and Gravestones / Re: Bingham, UK grave sites

Hi,

I had a very successful day visiting the St Peter's Churches in Tollerton and Shelford.  In Tollerton I found the headstone of my great great grandfather - Hodgkinson Morris (d.1875).  In Shelford I found the records at the church recording the burials of my great grandparents.

Thanks for the help,
Sandie

Hi,

Thanks for the info....looks like the only one not baptized was my grandfather (he was the youngest).

Thanks also for the burial info - I guess it may forever remain a mystery where Hodgkinson & Emma are buried.

Where would I buy the CD you have?

Cheers,
Sandie

Hi,

Yes, I would appreciate having the baptism records.

I took a look at the websites you offered and I think we will plan to take a trip to St Peters churchyard to see if we can find some family gravesites.  This will mean we will likely not make it to the Nottingham Archives but there is always next time!

Thanks again for your help,
Sandie

Hi,

Thanks for the info and your ideas. His name is very unusual and I thought that would make it easier to find his grave site. I think the info that u found is my great great grandfather who has the same name as my great grandfather. The date of death is slightly different than the one I have but it may be the correct one. Where did u find the info? What is St. Peter - a church? I will definitely check out Shelford! Maybe there is a family burial site there.

Jane and Hodgkinson had 8 children - I will maybe try to look at their baptism records while I am there. Do u have any idea where baptism records are kept?

Thanks for your help - leads are always very exciting to get!!

Cheers,
Sandie

Hi,

Yes, that is the record that I found as well.  I am probably going to have to make the purchase to determine if Jennie Morris is my grandfather's sister.

Thanks,
Sandie

Hi,

Thanks for that website - I think I may have found information on my great grandmother's family.
(Jane Elizabeth Strong b. 1857) but there is no gravesite noted for her or her husband Hodgkinson Morris b.1857. Although my research indicates that he died in Bingham I have no knowledge of where she died.  Having said that they farmed near Saxondale and so maybe there is a graveyard in Saxondale that I should be checking out?

World War One / Nursing Sister WWI

Hi,

Does anyone have any experience in researching British Nursing Sisters? Specifically I am trying to determine if a nursing sister named Jennie Morris is the sister of my grandfather (her name is Jennifer M. Morris b. 1884 in Saxondale, Nottingham ).  In regular military research I have previously done I have been able to find documents that were completed by the soldier and state the next of kin. It is this type of document that I am trying to find on her in order to link the military history with the Jennifer Morris I am researching.
I am actually working on this thread of information because I have been unable to find any marriage info (or anything else) on her and therefore have speculated that she may have been a nursing sister and never married.

Thanks for any assistance...

Sandie
