Kinross-shire / JOHN ADAMSON - BIRTH AND DEATH IN KINROSS PLEASE FIND
« on: Sunday 04 December 16 01:47 GMT (UK)  »
:o JOHN ADAMSON was my great grandfather and although he was born (around 1852 and later buried in Kinross, he resided in Glasgow.  I believe it was Kinross (the town) but I am not entirely sure.  I am in Canada - a long way from Kinross.  So if a Rootschatter could find his beginning and end, I would be grateful.

Hi Heywood,  Checked out John Press death in 1902 via Ancestry.  Unfortunately they produce an index which tells you exactly what you found but not whether he had Joshua Prestt for a father and Alice Prestt for a mother and I have (had an uncle).  I could order the death certificate; that is feasible.  But the challenge is finding another way.  Right?? :-\

Heywood, See what you mean - Probate no help either.  Checked Canada records - only Thomas and Agnes.  No John.  As yet.  Audrey

Thank you  :) Philipsearching (as I wrote John (born 1900) and Thomas (born 1901), Heywood, Garsonite and Heather.  Grandmother was Alice Prestt.   Agnes went to Canada with Thomas and Alice.   As Garsonite wrote "where is John?"  And like she also wrote it doesn't help when you are dealing with spelling Prest, Priest or whatever. I was not very clear and trying to make information as short as possible.  Heather came up with a site dealing with 'probate' records; I will investigate.  Audrey

I have posted before  (Northumberland) with great success but I realize I should start from the beginning.
???  My grandmother married twice and her last name was Heyes, then Prestt, then Attwood.  While she was Prestt, she had two boys.  The first was John (1900) and the second  Thomas (1901).  Both were listed at free BMD and born in Wigan.  Her husband was named Joshua Prestt (1874-1902), an explosive expert who died in an explosion early in their marriage.    I have met Thomas; so I know he is for real.   Why did John remain in England?  Does John Prestt have a marriage or death certificate?  Will I ever meet his descendants?

JJ   Ellen or Helene is my hubbie's grandmother - definitely Quebec or Lower Canada.  Since PolarBear writes they didn't have a church until 1850's in Ste. Sophie, I have a hunch they may have married in Montreal (Basilica of Notre Dame)  Why?  He was Irish.  Others in their family (and especially Irish immigrants) have been married there; it was a focal point.  Also many names (of the children) have been repeated by their children and their childrens' children.  I have Emailed the Basilica hoping to discover they may have an answer.  Cross my fingers.
