Thanks for responding Angela,

I think your Aunt in Spain maybe  Margret Coyle. She is my Mom's cousin. Her granny Margaret Robertson Coyle was my Great- Granny Helen nee  Robertson Coyle Murdoch's sister and my Mom Agnes Vallely nee Brady's Grandmother and her (Mother's Agnes Coyle Valley) Mom. I have been in contact with Margaret for a few years now online. She has been very helpful with family information. The Gorman connection is interesting as my Dad's Great Aunt Elizabeth Brady married William Gorman and they had a son Andrew whom married Catherine Brannan. Their daughter Catherine Gorman married James Coyle whom died in 1977. So indirectly my dad is connected to the Coyle's. I have been trying to figure out if there are any old photo's of the senior members or a marriage certificate with the dates on it for the older Gorman/Brady side. I have been trying to get a lot of information as of late as senior family members are passing on or have been ill and cannot help with the genealogy now. If you can help with any thing can you respond back. :) I can give you some back ground to Elizabeth Brady's family if you don't have it. Cheers, Lorraine In Canada x

Annie,

Thanks for your response. My Great-great Grandfather  William Robertson was a ironstone/ coalminer. His wife my Great-great Grandmother Margaret nee Rafferty( Rafferdy) Robertson was a Pit Head Worker. They were married on 31 Dec.1868 Kilsyth, Stirlingshire. Each of their occupation I have listed off their marriage certificate. William was born 1845 in Bothwell, Lanarkshire, Scotland. Son of David Robertson1793 – 1851 ( coalminer) & Margaret nee Thomson Robertson 1815 – 1868. William & Margaret had 8 children together born from 1869- 1885 ( born in Airdrie, Bathgate, Linlithgowshire, Uphall, Girtness, Lanarkshire etc.). They have one son, George Rafferty 23 Jan 1864 in  Bo'ness,West Lothian, Scotland, whom was either born illegitimate before the marriage or was a stepson to William. I have seen census of 1871 & up to 1901 and all other children are accounted for except for David. I had suspicions he had died early 1871 sometime but can't proof it yet.
The Robertson grandparents were deceased before David was born (as were Rafferty grandparents).

Does this help?
Cheers Lori

ev,

Thanks for the tip about David Robertson. We were thinking that perhaps he died before the census of 1871 0r before 1881. We have been on several ancestry sites and have come across nothing. We will see if we can access Scotland's people for answer.

Cheers,

Cannot see him listed on any Scottish census with the rest of William Robertson family. Have not been able to find any death record of him. Can anyone assist?

Hey all,

Does anyone have any family information on Andrew Gorman b. 1866 whom married a Catherine Brannan. They had a daughter Catherine Gorman whom married into the Coyle family (Particularly James Coyle).
Unique as Andrew Gorman's mother is Elizabeth Brady (Braidy/Bready) my Great- Grand Aunt married a WILLIAM GORMAN IN LANARKSHIRE( AIRDRIE?) and James Coyle is a cousin on my Gran Coyle's side ( Agnes nee Coyle Vallely) WHOM LIVED IN Bathgate WEST LOTHIAN.

I have found an Andrew Gorman whom died in 1915 WWI in Gallipoli, Canakkale, Turkey and I am wondering if this is the same Andrew.

Any assistance appreciated,

Lorianne

West Lothian (Linlithgowshire) / Occupation on 1871 Scottish Census reads Hanrex?
« on: Friday 10 January 14 18:47 GMT (UK)  »
Good Afternoon to all family tree researchers,

Does anyone know what the term HANREX would mean? It is showing on the 1871 Scottish Census as the Occupation of my Great-Grand Aunt Elizabeth Coyle living in Bathgate, W. Lothian.

Thanks Lorianne,
