The Registers that I’m interested in are held by the Manchester and Lancashire Family History Society and the Lancashire Archives.

The Marriage Registers for September 1880 were completed by the Priest and don’t have the signatures of the Bride and Groom on them.

Hi Mark,

Your Link says:

Please note that the Archives do not hold any Baptism or Marriage registers. Many early (pre-World War Two) registers have been deposited at Lancashire Archives, Preston, both to ensure their safe preservation, and to aid genealogical research.

It’s the Lancashire Archives that I contacted to ask if the Marriage Registers that I’m interested in contain the signatures of the Bride and Groom.

And the Archives have told me that they don’t.

After some correspondence with the Lancashire Archives, I’ve now had this message from the Searchroom Manager there:

‘I've had a look, and registers for that period appear not to have any signatures; it's just a record written by the priest’.

And so I guess that I’ve reached the end of the line with trying to find a signature by Richard Kean ☹️

However, I have the DNA matches; which show my link to his family.

Many thanks Jebber,

I’ve fired off lots of enquiries, and will post again if I get anywhere.

What I want to avoid above all is getting another copy of the same Marriage Certificate! (And paying £22 for the privilege;-)

Many thanks for your helpful reply Jebber, much appreciated.

Manchester Central Library is a difficult Site to contact directly, I’ve been going round in circles on it:-(

I might resort to sending them a written letter explaining what I need, because there doesn’t seem to be any way of explaining on the standard forms that you get directed to.

I’ve had a reply from Manchester Registry Office saying that the original Certificate will be held by Manchester Central Library Archives and that I’d need to pay another £11.00 to order the Marriage Certificate from them…

The problem is that there’s no guarantee that I wouldn’t just get sent another identical copy of the certificate that I already have!

Really unsure how to proceed with this…?

Thanks Sandie, yes they’re at the Lancashire Archives.

I’ve emailed them about it, and I’ve tried searching on Lancat, the search engine on there, but got nil results.

Hopefully they’ll get back to me in the week.

Romilly 🤞🤞🤞

Yes Jebber,

It’s St Wilfred’s RC Church, Hulme. Unfortunately the Church was deconsecrated and closed in 1990. There’s some uncertainty about where the original records are held.

Many thanks for all your replies.

Jabber, I’ve messaged the Registration District concerned asking if they can help.
I’ve also emailed the Lancashire Records Office to see if they hold the original Marriage Records.

I’ve been round and round on the National Archives Site, but it seems inconclusive about what is held where…🤔

I do hope that this can be resolved! I’ve been looking for so long…😵‍💫
