This Fowlie Family topic was opened in 2018 and is active as at November 2023. If anyone is searching for Fowlie family, I may be able to help. PM me and I will happy to see if I can assist. There is also a private Facebook Group page named Fowlie Family Forum (Fx3) which I post to on a regular basis with family news and events. Happy to join any authentic Fowlie to the group if you are interested.

I do however recommend posting here to RootsChat as it has been a great source of ancestral family history for myself an others.

Good morning Issi,

Thank you for your lead on William D. (Duncan) Fowlie. I did not have he or his family in the Fx3 (Fowlie Family Forum) database, so had to go hunting for them. The information you provided was very helpful in tracking down the family. I couldn't find a marriage for his parents Alexander Fowlie and Isabel Duncan, but their names are in the SP Index for William's birth.

FOWLIE WILLIAM
ALEXANDER FOWLIE/ISABEL DUNCAN
M 18/06/1836 248 40 / 40 TYRIE

In the 1841 Scotland Census he, age 5, is shown with his mother Isabel Duncan, age 24, at the home of her parents (his grandparents) in Blackhills, Tyrie. Use of her maiden name would suggest she wasn't married to Alexander? In the same 1841 Census, his father Alexander age 29 is with his parents at Croft of Artamford, New Deer.

In 1863, William age 27 (parents named as Alexander Fowlie and Isabella Fowlie, M.S. Duncan - now married?) marries Elizabeth Lawson age 27 (parents John Lawson and Margaret Laws)

Thank you for posting the original information. Showed me that the task of tracking down ancestors will never end, but we keep trying to find them all :)
Best regards, Warren

Hi Issi,

Hope you are still monitoring this post. I have just gotten back into RootChat for the New Year.
I have read your post several times and can't quite put the details together with what I have in a Fowlie Family (Fx3) database. I will work on it and get back to you once I have it clear how William and Elizabeth fits into the rest of the Fowlie Family.
Thanks for passing on this information

Hi,
I have a Fowlie connection, William D Fowlie, born in Aberdeenshire (can't make out the area), c.1836, m. 6 Nov 1863 Elisabeth Lawson (ggg aunt of mine) in Peterculter. He was a joiner on the 1891 census. There's a family grave including her in Peterculter cemetery, Aberdeen: "...And their Daughter ELIZABETH, Widow of W.D. FOWLIE, who died 2nd Nov 1910, aged 74 years." Sorry, that's all i have on him.

Good morning Laura & Monica,

I am in start-up mode for 2023, so am just catching up with your latest posts. Annie "Henderson" can be a bit confusing as there are kind of four of her in SP.

FOWLIE ANNIE HENDERSON
F 1893 222 / B / 7 MILLBREX

FOWLIE ANNIE HENDERSON
F 1897 320 / 11 STRACATHRO

FOWLIE ANNIE HENDERSON
GRAY F 1910 195 / 40 FOVERAN

FOWLIE ANNIE HENDERSON
F 1920 259 / 25 FORDOUN

I have just found I only have two of them in the Fowlie Fx3 database I manage, so some work for me to do there. However, I think the one you are looking for Laura who married Andrew Wallace was born in 1893. Her parents were Walter Fowlie 1860-1917 and Agnes Hutchison 1858-1927. Walter's parents were Alexander Fowlie abt 1819-1888 and Elizabeth Salter abt 1922-1906. Alexander was my great great grandfather.
I have more details going back further if you are interested.
I am interested in your family line where it connects to the Fowlie line. Happy to provide more details as you need them.

Thanks Eileen. Good of you to add this. I've just taken over the admin for Patrick and Ruby on Find A Grave and will add it in with the other details.

  :) Retraction
I need to do a bit more checking and reading the posts with less haste. I didn't pickup the point that Gavin and Peter were brothers. Most likely and as I commented, I need to get back to Gavin and follow his family connection. Sorry for the misstep :)

Good morning All,
Been a while since I paid a visit to RootsChat.

Yes Gavin was the one who spent time up in the Yukon. I still have gaps in the background for him and I will get onto it when I finish my current research.

I wanted to comment on the Peter Fowlie (1867-1943) who was mentioned as being involved in Singapore. He was a doctor and because of his involvement in the community, he was appointed a a commissioner. I think it was an appointment in recognition of his service rather than his political aspirations. He and his wife Mary Lawrence had two sons: Patrick Mulligan (?-?) and James Lawrence (1894-1917) James was killed during WWI in France. Patrick went on to become the President of Shell Oil Company in Canada. I don't know that Gavin was related to Peter and Mary, but maybe there is a link there somewhere.

Hope this may assist.
Regards,
Warren
