Whilst scrolling through the Baptisms at St Anne’s on Lancs opc I did notice a couple of entries that were similar, one saying ‘given to court’, and the relevant date.

Fast forward a few years, an update. Richard Rigby if Haighton did marry Helen Singleton. Evidence shows that Richards father was Nicholas Rigby, who died in 1773 in Fulwood, Preston. His father was Richard Rigby who died in Fulwood in 1708. He married Elizabeth Miller from Heskin, so the land records from Heskin fit in. That is where I come to a stop. I can find no marriage for them, but guesses are they married around 1690. Has anyone got any idea where I can go next? With his land acquired in Writington and his wife from Heskin, could he be from that area? I do know there were Rigby’s from Harrock Hall, but my Richard was only a husbandman. How interesting! Since my initial post I have found that my Catherine Mahon married John Green in Manchester 1844. Later in the 1881 England Census in Burnley, being a widower, he lists his birthplace as Longford. Catherine died in Bacup in 1874 age 44. This leads me to believe that the 1841 census in Manchester, my Catherine was the one aged 10.

Thanks. I have just dug out my records, I have a news item from the Burnley Express dated 8 Aug 1942 about him being missing ‘officially posted missing in the Middle East since June 28th’ Ancestry has him on a record for German occupied territory, where the camp number is listed.
