United States of America / House Information in 1920s Detroit, Michigan
« on: Saturday 17 February 24 04:59 GMT (UK)  »
My g-grandparents (Henry and Jennie Jeffrey) lived in Detroit, Michigan in the 1920s. They are listed in the 1920 US census in Detroit. They lived at 1503 Montclair Ave in Detroit in June, 1925. By 1930, they had moved to Seattle, Washington, where they are listed there in the 1930 US census. I am attempting to determine when they moved to Seattle. Are there records online that might tell me when their house was sold sometime between 1925 and 1930? Thanks!

United States of America / Looking for Santa Monica street photo from 1933
« on: Thursday 05 October 23 17:29 BST (UK)  »
My g-grandfather, Henry Jeffrey, lived at 943 Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica, CA. Attached is a photo of him on his steps in 1933. The residence has been torn down, and is currently replaced by apartments. Is it possible to see a photo of what it looked like in 1933? How might I access an old photo of the place?

Thanks so much, everyone! In the photo of the group of mailmen there is a 1010 over the front door of the building. So it's probably 1010 W. 48th Street

My grandfather was a mailman in Los Angeles in the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. I have a photograph of him with his fellow mailmen in front of the Los Angeles Post Office G. I'm wondering where this Post Office was located? He regularly delivered mail in the Vermont Avenue area. Thanks!

For everyone's information, I was able to locate the accident data on ODOT's website. It looks like just a bunch of numbers and letters at first, but if you look at what the codes mean, you're able to piece together the bigger picture. I've attached what it looks like and the codes.

I live in San Luis Obispo. This current storm has dropped 4.25 inches of rain in my backyard in the last day!

United States of America / 2018 Oregon Traffic death
« on: Friday 10 March 23 20:07 GMT (UK)  »
My cousin, Constance (Jeffrey) Campbell (1954-2018), passed away in a suspicious traffic accident on 2 November 2018 on Interstate 84 outside of Ontario, Malheur county, Oregon. I live in California, but my son lives in Portland, Oregon. I asked him to see if he could obtain a copy of Constance's death certificate. So today he went to the Portland State Office Building, in person, to apply. They said the certificate was not obtainable until 50 years after her death.
2 questions:
1. Is this information accurate? Do I have to wait 45 more years to get a copy of her death certificate? Or is there another way to get a copy?
2. What other sources of information can I research to discover the circumstances of her death? She had two of her grandchildren in the car at the time of the accident, and one of them was injured badly enough to be admitted to a local hospital (unsure of the name of the facility).

In addition, Monica, Edmund Morris (a descendant of Alexander Morris, who married Janet Lang in Paisley, Scotland 27 May 1780), has written an account of Alexander McLean and the early settlement of Brockville, Ontario, Canada. In the account, written sometime between 1905 and 1925, which I have recently viewed, he states the following:
"Mr. Alexander Morris had intended to leave Scotland prior to the American Revolution, but at the time could not close his business. Then fighting on the high seas made the voyage too precarious. It was not until 1801 that he and his family came to Canada. In that year, the Morris's visited the McLeans at Elizabethtown [the early name for Brockville] for he was married to a sister of Mrs. McLean. He held an option on a large farm there but preferred the trading post of Montreal where he engaged in business for several years. Eventually misfortunes at sea and otherwise embarrassed him and he bought a small farm near the McLeans, where he spent his remaining years."
Based on this account and the document I submitted for deciphering, I concluded that Ann Lang and Janet Lang were sisters. However, I am now questioning this conclusion, based on the information about the marriage of Alexander Lang and Janet Fleming, and the marriage date of Alexander McLean and Ann Lang.
Do you have any suggestions or solutions to these facts? Thanks so much!

Yeah, Monica, that's the mystery. She was married to Alexander McLean in 1763 (OPR record attached). Her alleged parents were married in 1750. What do you think the possibilities might be to explain that? Her husband, Alexander McLean, was born in 1736.
