Nervous of logging off in case the same panel comes up next time...  :( Hope the mods might be able to help here.

Cornwall / Re: Mystery of the missing bp for William Bowden 1770 Callington
« on: Wednesday 29 March 23 09:46 BST (UK)  »
Not sure. COPC has seven pages of bps in Callington from 1790-1800 inclusive and so not all entries would be missing. Another explanation is they were bp non-conformist and either the records haven't been transcribed or have been lost.

EDIT: COPC has Jno. Mildren bp 21.6.1795 Callington to Richard and Dorothy - could this be him?

https://www.cornwall-opc-database.org/search-database/more-info/?t=baptisms&id=5989502

Richard Mildren married Dorothy Coule 12.11.1774 Callington by Banns.

Technical Help / Cookies on RootsChat - can 'Reject All' be added please
« on: Wednesday 29 March 23 09:43 BST (UK)  »
A few years ago, a cookie banner appeared on RootsChat and the number of vendors to turn off was so great I stayed off. Then it changed and it was simpler to turn off cookies. Now it's back to the panel of a few years ago with so many vendors it's taken me 5 mins to switch them all off.

Is it possible to have a 'Reject All' button like many sites do?

Thanks, Flemming.

Occupation Interests / Re: Was an iron bundler the same as a stock taker?

More interesting info, thanks. Now thinking they are the same occupation as I'm finding more paper evidence that this group were siblings.

I had a little dig about online and I found this.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bar_stock

I could sort of see this being along the same lines as an iron bundler. Maybe.

Aha, that's interesting. And so a 'stock taker' might not be quite what we imagine today as in counting items in a shop or warehouse.

Occupation Interests / Was an iron bundler the same as a stock taker?

...or are they totally different occupations?

Both come up as groom/bride's father's occupation on the marriage records of alleged siblings, but I wonder if there are two different family groups involved here  ???

Many thanks, Flemming

Could it be Hallborough? Halboro.  And scribe wrote what he thought was being said?

Hi there, I think you might have got it. There's a marriage for 'Ephriam Halbrough' 1838 Hackney - surely there can't be two...? Famous last words  :D

Many thanks, will keep digging with this name variant.

Here’s a challenge for Chatters. It’s a clip from the Will of Ambrose Gibbons of Edenbridge in Kent, proved in January 1804. The clip mentions grandchildren Ephraim and Mary Alborough - at least it looks like Alborough, but I haven’t been able to find baptisms or otherwise for them.

Any ideas for alternative interpretations?

Thanks, Flemming.
