Thanks Everyone  :)

You certainly can't say it's not interesting researching family!

Yes, Indaloman

I have found that before, but in this case the second christenings also have a birth date as well!

When I thought about the christening I wondered if the child had been christened twice - I have also come across that, but the birth dates made nonsense of that idea.

Thanks anyway.

Thanks Masgrace

I''ll keep this is mind and certainly agree about family names being a good guide, although I have not as yet come across the same name being used again except in a remarriage when usually the father's name is given again to the first born child of the second marriage.

Cheers

Hi

I hope you can help.

While researching I have come across a group of IGIs of christenings which do not make sense to me.

Wm Wood christened 31st August 1794 Terling; Father: Wm Wood Mother Mary
Saml Wood christened 27th August 1797 Terling; Father: Wm Wood Mother Mary
Thos Wood christened 1st 11th April 1802 Terling; Father: Wm Wood Mother Mary
Mary Wood birth 6th January 1805 christened 3rd February 1805 Terling; Father: Wm Wood Mother Mary
Wm Wood birth 14th March 1806 christened 13 April 1806 Terling; Father: Wm Wood Mother Mary
Saml Wood christened 28th April 1809 Terling; Father: Wm Wood Mother Mary
Maria Wood birth 10th November 1810 christened 3rd February 1811 Terling; Father: Wm Wood Mother Mary
Sarah Wood christened 25th April 1813 Terling; Father: Wm Wood Mother Mary

Normally I would take it that the first two William and Samuels died and the second William and Samuel were named for them, but I cannot find the second two, but the first two are alive and well in the censuses and having their own children.

They would seem to be the same family and I have not found evidence that there were two William Woods married to a Mary in Terling.  As far as I can tell William c1766 and Mary c1771 are alive in the 1841 census in Terling and I have found birth and marriage records that fit:

Wm Wood married Mary Hammond 3rd February 1788 Terling

Wm Wood christened 20th March 1768 Terling; Father: Saml Wood Mother Ruth
Mary Hammond christened 16th September 1770 Terling; Father: Wm Hammond Mother Mary

Any ideas please?

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / St John Hackney Union Workhouse
« on: Sunday 20 May 07 18:35 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Can anyone help.

I believe I have relatives in the 1841 census at the St John Hackney Union Workhouse:

William Truman and his mother Susan (transcribed as Foreman - although not certain) and his sister Elizabeth (transcribed as Freeman).

I want to find the records for the workhouse so I can see when they entered the work house and whether their names are all Truman.

Does anyone know if it is possible to track them down.  I have drawn a blank so far.  :(

Many thanks  :-*

Hi Rick

Thanks for the information, I will certainly take a look at the Bishops Transcripts and hopefully will come up with what I am looking for.

Regards

Tina.

Hertfordshire / Missing Baptisms

Hi

I am trying to find a baptism in Reed c1786, but when I looked at the parish records in Hertford GRO I found there seemed to be a big gap just where I needed to look.

Baptisms - 1539-1766, 1813-1966

Am I right in thinking that these records are from the Bishops Transcripts and therefore there might just be an original record from the Church kept somewhere else and if so any idea where?

Help would be much appreciated.

Tina

Hi again

Yes, I found her although the transcribed name was not Hague:

These are my notes:

Ok, I think this could be the right family:  Joseph is a Wheelwright and they are living Westgate, and we have both Harriot and Christiana who is 5 months old.  Needless to say both Hasse and Hapie look like Hague to me.

This fits with the 1851 census I have found as well, although that again is a little unusual.

What do you think?
